I was thinking about making a roll-up thingy to hold thread, scissors, needles.... kind of like a makeup kit. But, I am wondering how functional it would be, or if it would just wind up a cool little doodad stuffed in my closet cause it didn't work they way I expected. What do you use to told your hand sewing stuff on the go?

there is a neat one in one of the Georgia Bonesteel books---made one for my DD--and plan to make one for me this week...Have a BIG tote, but want a smaller one for smaller projects.

I saw one at the Paducah Quilt show by the YoYos of Paducah. I couldn't find a way to contact them to buy one so I research and found a pattern on line. I made one and love it. I keep it on the table next to me where I hand quilt. Nice to have the prethreaded needles.

I think the form would depend on where you hand sew and what you sew. I hand sew my repairs on blouses, etc. in the car on trips - actually add lace, put on buttons on the blouses I plan on wearing - that way
I have to do the mending, then that also dictates the size and convenience of the sewing kit. Of course my DH is driving. I update a lot T-shirts this way. I'm thinking a kit that slipped over my window visor would really be a godsend.

what a great idea...I do crocheting in the car and wondered if I could sew w/o getting car sick....Sewing would need more stuff..hehehe

That's kind of what I was picturing - only I was going to attach some ribbons so I could roll it up instead of slip over my visor -- but that might be better...
