Thank you everyone for your good advice. I won't worry about getting it perfect. It will be smaller but I could probably put an extra border on. There are 3 borders. Do you think I could add inches to each border and add a 4th border, to be sure it will fit a king size bed?

i pretty much always have a hand project going, need something to work on when i'm away from my machine :) sometimes it seems alot more precise to me and i really enjoy the process.
Jinny Beyer is the queen of hand piecing I love her techniques and her creations. i think she has free tutorials on her web site.

Jone, sure you can! Making multiple borders is a great way to enlarge your quilt. You can make them as wide as you wish.

Hand piecing and hand quilting is beyond my old hands. I need my machine.

I've made several Around the World &/or stairstep type quilts with 2-1/2" squares. They are very easy to do by hand and if you add the blocks in stairsteps they go very quickly. Now quickly is relative of course...my queen size one with 1500+ squares took a good long while. The nap quilts on the other hand were done in a month or so from cutting the squares to hand piecing to sandwiching, to hand quilting, to binding, all done entirely by hand.

I would love to hand quilt, but hurts my hands just to handsew the binding on. I have arthritis. My hat is off to those who attempt and can.

I like to hand piece because I can do it and watch tv. Can't just sit there with nothing to do with my hands.

Also seems to me it's easier to fudge a little bit to get things to line up right.

I always have several handpiecing quilts going. Each project in a separate carrying case with everything needed to do the work. Easy to pick up and take to Guild, small group meetings etc.
