Handles for totes/purses
This is probably a really odd question, but for you ladies who make the pretty totes/purses with the double handles, is there any reason I can't make a single handle, side seam to side seam, instead of the double handle bags? I really like the longer shoulder strap but most of the patterns have the shorter double handles. I'm looking at the charm totes from Jenny Doan but would prefer a different strap.
Thanks in advance. evy |
No harm in giving it a try...would you place your strap at each end OR one end on front and one end on back OR on a ring place between front and back? Hum lots of choices. Will be watch for a photo why you have finished your tote. :)

My only thought is about the size of the opening of the purse .... would it open wide enough for putting things in and getting things out of the purse easily. I am anxious to see how it turns out. You may have a new method here!

Oh, I did that once and it was a disaster! I had to undo them and correct it. You can't open the tote unless both ends of the handles are stitched on the same side.

My gd requested a bag to wear cross shoulder. This little bag has a snap closure and one strap sewed to the side seams. Works very well.

Sorry for the duplication! I have no idea what I did or how to fix it.

You need some sort of closure, a zipper, snap, flap etc, otherwise the bag may gape open. other than that, no problem. You can make the bag & just pin the handles on & see how it does.
RainyBC: It's not you. something happened when they upgraded a week or so ago. Some pictures are being duplicated. |
I agree with PaperPrincess....one strap bags tend to sag and gap open if there is no flap or closure.

You could solve the gaping open problem by putting in a zipper at the top of the bag.

try it. you can always change it if you don't like it.
