I know, I know, I'm new here and asking all sorts of questions!

I finished my first non-pattern quilt from scraps that I had laying around. It came out very nice, even if it's not perfect. I want to hang it from our landing over the rail - dual purpose - it will cover the back of a desk that is up there and be out for display. Since it's going to be hanging from a rail, how do I do that? I know if it were hanging from a bar, I'd whip stitch a fabric tube to the back. Would it work to put loops on the top with buttons or velcro on them? And if you have pictures, I'd appreciate it - I'm very visual!

I was thinking Velcro, buttons would work as well.

I might would still try to use a bar through a sleeve that goes all the say across the back to eliminate/minimize sagging in spots. Then, maybe attach the ends of the bar with loops to the railing. A decorative curtain rod would maybe work. Depending on how wide and heavy the quilt is, you may need some loops in the middle, too.

that is a great idea

Good point. Thanks.

when a sleeve won't work for me i use tabs evenly spaced across the width of the quilt fastened with large buttons- i tried the velcro, but my quilt was too heavy.
i put some sort of sleeve/hanging tabs on almost every quilt i make. my daughter's huge king size dragonfly quilt has a sleeve and they use the quilt on the bed during the winter and hang it over their sliding glass doors as drapes in summer
