I believe it was a pully system with rope.

Attach eye hooks to all 4 sides of the frame and then 4 in the ceiling I think. Thread through to raise and lower.

My Husband made me one years ago when our kids were small from 1X2's and small cotton rope and eye bolts he drilled holes in the 1X2's and eye bolts in the ceiling and on the 1X2's and when not in use just wound the rope on the ends till it was up to the ceiling

C Clamps to hold stretchers (wood pieces) in place. Just wind it up on the ends as weatheread advised, laeve the ropes a little long, also makes a cool fort for the kids to play under as long as not pulled on too much. :)

Sounds like it works like a Roman Blind.

My grandmother had one too. I just barely remember sneaking under it one time before she had a chance to pull it up to the ceiling. (I was in awe over the fact that she had it hanging from her ceiling.
I'll ask my mother if she remembers how it was set up. She is almost 91 so she may not remember all of the details.

Edited to add: I just did a google search and found this website.... http://www.ehow.com/how_4842623_anti...ing-frame.html
