hanging a wall hanging???
I made a wall hanging for our church, and now have to decided if i want to add a sleeve or the triangles to hang it.
The wall hanging is 50 x65 would it be better to use a sleeve then the triangles on the corners. Which would hold the wall hang better and straight? If you use a sleeve would two sleeves be better with a split in the center or one long one as this wall hanging is pretty big. Also has anyone put a sleeve on the bottom so you could add a weighted rod so that it would hold the wall hanging straight down? This is my first wall hanging and want to get it right, Thanks |
If it is big then a sleeve is probably better but it depends on how you are going to hang it. Ideally the rod could rest on a support on both ends. A rod can be added to the bottom if needed for it to hang straight.

I vote for a sleeve with a split in the center. The weight at the bottom is also a good idea. It will help it hang straight.

Depending on style perhaps a long pocket on the top and bottom. Put rods in both that stick out the side, Then you can add decorative ends. The top rod could have a decorative cord with tassels on the end for hanging.

I add my sleeve in 3 pieces-larger piece centered, then leave a space of a few inches on each side and add a smaller piece close to the ends. That enables me to use nails in the wall, or command hooks, to support a long rod and not show. Hooe that makes sense!

I have made several large wall hangings for my church. I do 2 sleeves with a space in the middle and the nail goes in this space. You could do another sleeve on the bottom for weight. But I usually use mounting putty on other spots to help hold the hanging tight against the wall so that it doesn't 'bag' out.

I hung this one with triangles and a small hanging sleeve in the middle and a dowel. The corners were sagging so I hand stitched a small piece of velcro on those corners and attached them to a piece of Command strip velcro. Voila! no sagging and I can move it if I need to. Hope this helps.
