It happend - specialty glue stick for fabric
Not so long ago we were discussing using Elmer's School Glue (stick and liquid) for basting quilts. It is inexpensive, especially if you buy it at back to school time, it works and it saves me from crawling all over the floor. Quess what, I was at ACMoore yesterday and in the sewing/quilting isle I saw specialty glue sticks for $2.99 a pop. I don't think so! I cannot remember what brand they were but I will stick with Elmer's. To quote my husband "if it works, don't mess with it".

It's been around for a while--stupid me used to buy it because it was said that it wouldn't make your fabric stiff and would wash out and that no other glue would do that. Thank God for this board! I haven't bought that glue for 4 years now!

Good for you to find what works for you. I haven't used any kind of glue yet.

I bought some glue sticks in WalMart. They didn't say they were water soluble, but they did have a phone number on them. They only cost $1.00 each. I called and they told me that all their glue sticks were water soluble. They were Elmer's Glue Sticks. Nice to know.

they are just the thing to use when pp'ing as pins just get in the way, but i use elmer's like the rest of the informed quilters

I bought some 3/$1 ones at the dollar store and they didn't hold anything. Don't waste your money!

Since discovering the ease and wonderful seams I get....I really doubt that I will ever try anything else but Elmers Washable School glue! The price is fabulous especially at back to school time.

I only buy Elmers or Aileens glue sticks. I stocked up on Elmers's Glue sticks at the back to school sale at Walmart. .10 a stick. I vacuumed sealed them so they won't dry out for years. I use glue sticks more then pins. Tuesday Morning store had Aileen's super size glue stick for .99. I use that for holding batting in place. Aileens has a little more sticking power.
