Happy, Happy re FMQ
Thank goodness I think I'm finally getting the hang of free motion quilting! After some hands on instruction (again) at my LQS, and advise on this Board, I think I finally have the right combination of machine speed, my foot speed, tension, and my hand movment in feeding the fabric under the needle. Of course, this is just a tiny start and need lots of more practice, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (I think). Wish me luck please because I'd really like to do some FMQ.

Wishing you all the luck you need!

Yeah for you! FMQ is so much fun. And when you finally get the hang of it, it's even more fun!
Good for you!! I have only tried FMQ once and have to say it felt a little weird sewing in different directions versus straight-line sewing. Have to get the courage up and practice on some scrap pieces before trying to FMQ on a finished project.

You go, girl. I'm just not any good at it no matter how much I practice. I'm envious of anyone who can do it well.
just remember, practice, practice, practice. good luck and have fun

Good for you! Keep practicing and you'll continue to get better. FMQing is FUN, FUN, FUN once you get the hang of it!
I am still putting off trying to fmq! Maybe one day I will get up enough nerve to do it! Good Luck to you!
Doing the happy dance for you!! I can do the hand speed, machine speed, move the sandwich thing, but not so good at wrestling a big quilt on my machine, so I do QAYG or quilt in sections now. Easier on my nerves that way, not as much cussing either :-)))

I was very intimidated with FMQing when I first tried it ... very awkward! But, I was determined to practice and practice and keep practicing until I finally began to feel more comfortable! When I first began, I was using an open toe foot that kept snagging on the thread. Thanks to this board, I learned about the closed toe foot and it works great!! It is not something that come easy the first few times! But it is so worth learning and I thoroughly enjoy it now!

FMQ has that special 'sweet spot' that we all need to find. Some find it faster than others, but with practice and Patience, it can be found.
Good job, Jackie!!! |
I admire your determination. Happy dancing for you!
Proud of you! You go! Post us some pictures when you can!
I'm glad that you are doing so well with your FMG. Congratulations and good luck on future projects.

FMQ has changed my quilting big time! With enough practice you will be able to FMQ forwards, backwards! The challenge for me is trying to do a different design on each of my quilts. Pattern ideas can be endless. The puzzle pieces were on my first three quilts. I usually sit down and try designs on some old white butcher paper first! Have fun, the hardest thing about FMQ is just to keep at it, we all have our first attempts!

Good for you and keep it up.
It is important to get some instruction. Then once you've got the idea you can run with it!
Just remember to keep breathing! Easy listening music is good too! :)
Good luck to you. It's something I plan on trying to practice before I do it on a quilt top I would hate to ruin the top. It's nice to know someone's had the courage to start learning it. Sue
