I've started a double wedding ring quilt - one of my bucket items - and I do believe this is the hardest one I've attempted. First time doing curves. Think I should have started with something else but I tend to jump in with both feet. Which one of your quilts gave you the most trouble?

I started a DWR quilt when I was about 19 years old. I got one block done and it was wonky. I gave up the attempt and have not pieced one again! Good luck!

A lone star---with silks and satin's Not finished not EVEN close ...started about 15 years ago..I do know where it is but will stew a little longer on the back burner. Keep kicking with both feet and getter done.

Lone Star! I apparently turned the first piece and my color wave was off. I am hellbent on finishing it. One of these years! It's OK to walk away from a project until it feels better.

Double Irish Chain was mine - trying to match up all those seams in every block ...ewwwwww!

Believe it or not, my first Trip Around the World.

One I haven't done yet! I want to try the Star Spin-got the pattern, but really hesitant-besides, I can't decide on a color scheme yet. Also, foundation piecing-haven't attempted that yet-would love to take a class so when and if I run into trouble, someone will be there to get me thru it!

The first quilt I ever made was a double wedding ring. And I hand pieced every bit of it and it was a king size quilt. This was back when oldest was still at home and he is 31 now. Heavens!!
I did alot of moving around after I got it all pieced. So I still haven't quilted it. And was thinking about this just the other day.So I think I am about to get it out and quilt it so I can use it.I figured if that was my first quilt and it turned out looking decent....then I should be able to tackle anything. So keep going. And just be patient with yourself. I look forward to see it when you are done.

My DWR was the most difficult because I didn't have a good pattern or instructions at the time. It's still a favorite.

Star Spin queen size, I keep putting it aside, it's driving me mad and it's one that I just can't work on for too long at a time. The pattern is just ughhh......

I started a double wedding ring 10 years ago. I am happy to say I am finishing it! I started it when my son was in high school. I promised it to him and his wife when they got married 4 years ago. They will get it by Thanksgiving to also commemorate his graduation from medical school. All things in God's good time!

DWR - just keep working at it! I switched to hand-piecing the melons and centers (I paper / machine pieced the arcs) so I'm optimistic I'll have this one done for the holidays.

Never attempted the DWR, grannie warned me of this quilt. But one day I'll tackle it, just not soon.

The very first real quilt pattern I did was LeMoyne Star, all by hand. Didn't know what the fudge I was doing but I fell in love with the pattern and the border fabric I found. I look at the quilt now and just shake my head. Sometimes not knowing what you are getting into is not really a bad thing. Made me realize how much more I really needed to learn.

the trick to curved piecing is in clipping the inside curves to about 1/16th of an inch from the seam line before sewing. I teach my student to stitch with the stretchy piece underneath.

Pin to the seam from the cut edge instead of from the body of the piece, this prevents it from walking out as you stitch.

Gosh, thought I was the only one that had trouble with DWR and mine is supposed to be easier. It's Eleanor Burns pattern with the fusible interfacing. Will never do another one if I can get this one finished. :hunf:

I was in the LQS working on my very first quilt in one of the class sessions, and there was another woman there who was also working on her very first quilt. It was a DWR for her daughter's wedding present! To this day I can't believe that she took that on as a first project. It was giving her fits, but she was getting it done (with a lot of help from the LQS owner).

Star Spin definitely! I have it in rainbow colors, and have had it stashed for two years now. I thought I had the bull by the horns until I put it all together, and it was way out of square.

Each quilt I make, I go a little harder each time. I say so far, the puff quilts I have made are the hardest and most time consuming

I made Think inside the box. Started those cubes at a class and didn't get it back out for a year. Maybe one day I'd make another but not soon.
