Has anyone done any embroidery on dark fabrics and how do you transfer the pattern
 

on to the fabric and be able to see it to do the embroidery on? I know how to do it with white or light colors, but the dark fabric not so sure. Been a few years since I did any hand work. Thanks.

I traced the pattern onto a light fusible interfacing fabric (as light as possible so it wouldn't be visible from the front or change the flexibility of the fabric), ironed in on the wrong side of the fabric, and then used it as a guide for my stitches. I got the idea from a woman who called it "reverse redwork."

I believe there are products out there specifically for this, though -- something called Solvy?

I've embroidery on dark fabric . . . but it's not something I'd want to do often. I traced the pattern onto tissue paper, then basted that to the right side of the fabric. Stitched over the tissue, tore off the tissue, then painstakingly picked out each shred of leftover tissue, from my stitches. I've also tried "stitch and tear" but you have to be really careful about pulling the stitches, when you tear it away.

I have not done this as embroidery - but have marked dark fabrics for quilting. There are several pencils in light shades made for marking on dark fabrics. Chalk might night hold up, but I believe these pencils, which come in colors like white, pink, yellow, etc., would work fine?

Thanks I thought it could a problem, I do this hand work as I find it relaxing, something tells me it might cause me stress if I can not see it or have a lot of picking to do after. Might go to a lighter color.
