Has anyone else started a project only to discover that you were short black fabric???

That happened to me this afternoon but my DH came to the rescue.

He called me on his way home from work and asked me if I needed anything and when I said that I did not have the fabric I needed for a project he offered to stop and buy it for me :-)

I just wanted to brag on him :-)

Quilt4u 05-30-2010 04:19 PM

Wow!!! He is a Keeper for sure.

nursie76 05-30-2010 04:19 PM

What a sweetheart!

Sometimes when DH is starting on his way home and he knows I am already there, he might ask if I need anything...and yes...he has even picked up quilting supplies.

I think we both have keepers!

craftybear 05-30-2010 04:21 PM

wow, he is a keeper, glad you found the material!

Kathy N 05-30-2010 04:22 PM

Wow you definitely have a keeper there!!!

debbieumphress 05-30-2010 04:24 PM

My DH is so good too. I am doing at least 3-4 things a week with other quilters and always quiltnig at home. He is so sweet to allow me all this time. Neither of us works now. I keep him in lumber so he can work in his shop.LOL. He is defintely a keeper. You are lucky to find matching black. Here lately there are so many shades.

virtualbernie 05-30-2010 04:33 PM

Awwwwwwwww sweet!

quiltinghere 05-30-2010 05:02 PM

WHAT A GUY!!!

littlehud 05-30-2010 06:08 PM

That was a wonderful thing to do. So thoughtful. I nearly always need to make a trip to the fabric store before finishing a quilt. I'm always short of something.

BellaBoo 05-30-2010 06:18 PM

I learned that it is very hard to match black fabric. Almost impossible if you don't buy the exact brand off the same bolt. Good luck!

CarrieAnne 05-30-2010 06:30 PM

Aw, sweet guy!

dkabasketlady 05-30-2010 08:21 PM

You've got a keeper and I do too! If we're out doing errands, he always asks me if I want to go shopping for fabric and he buys most of the time too!!

CAROLJ 05-30-2010 08:26 PM

MegsAnn 05-30-2010 09:16 PM

Aw that's a great guy you have there. At least it was a color you could send him for! (As opposed to blue... which blue?)

He's "difinitely a keeper"!!!!!!!!

We were visiting our daughter in Connecticut last week after her graduation. We went to a quilt store and DH ended up helping another lady find fabric to match a knit bag she was making. I should consider renting him out, he actually is very good at coordinating colors and fabrics.
His hobby is wood carving and he can spend as much on wood and wood working tools as I can in a quilt shop!

betlinsmom 06-02-2010 05:45 PM

I find if I ask my DH to pick up some fabric for me he usually buys more fabric than I asked and something else, too. Yeah, think Ill keep him.

garysgal 06-02-2010 06:39 PM

He sounds like my husband. We are blessed!

Margie 06-02-2010 08:31 PM

He is a dear husband!

penski 06-02-2010 09:44 PM

well he sounds like he needs to be bragged about !!!
there are not to many men that will go to a fabric shop , let a lone go in by himself!!

maryjoan 06-03-2010 06:59 AM

My husband would have a time processing what and where to go for what I may need. But, he knows what prints and colors go the best together when I am charting a new quilt. Darn it, he is usually right!!

jojo47 06-03-2010 03:02 PM

My DH hasn't offered to pick up quilting supplies, but since I've had hip replacement surgery, he gets my TED hose (support stockings) on every morning for me. He's definitely a keeper! He's getting his own quilt as soon as I can sit long enough at a time to do some sewing...I'm thinking of doing the Jelly Roll Classic Sampler Quilt, but will use the twelve blocks as the center, and add wider borders to make a larger quilt.

MadQuilter 06-03-2010 03:36 PM

I've had "JUST enough" of the feature fabric for a quilt and when I finished the last block, I accidentally rotary cut into previously sewn blocks. (Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!) So I had to find a creative way to fix that mess. There was no more fabric to be had. Lucky you.

sylvia77 06-03-2010 06:37 PM

I doubt I could get my husband to step foot inside a fabric store, he'd be lost. I have to get my own supplies if I need them. You're so lucky your husband is so supportive 'cause mine isn't.

walen 06-04-2010 11:05 AM

You ladies are as lucky as I am to have our husbands.

MIne also shops with me for quilt fabric and has stopped to pick up something for me at LQS on his way home.

He also does most of the grocery shopping and does all the vacuuming, including my sewing room! Of course, he does have field-trial dogs that come into the house and shed like crazy. LOL

I don't complain about dog hair and he vacuums two or three times a week.

We are a lucky bunch!

Quilter7x 06-04-2010 11:06 AM

Wow, my DH would never do that. He would pick up other things, but no way would he attempt to get a fabric from a fabric store. Kudos to your DH!
