quilted silk and cotton together in making a quilt?

i have one that i am working on now it's a little tricky.

Are you hand piecing the two fabrics?

I have an old Japanese kimono that's stained in places, and would like to preserve it in a wall hanging. I just didn't know how to work with it.

Any suggestions as to piecing?
