loved fabric when you bought it...loved the pattern when you decided to make it...THEN absolutly hated the project once you got it togther. I have spent all week on a little lap quilt that has today turned into 3 separate lap quilts just so I could stand it. Actually I may make it a front and back and then a separate top...still don't love it though.

eaglebeak1960 01-28-2011 10:09 AM

been there done that. I have several UFO's that I started now I cannot stand em.

np3 01-28-2011 10:12 AM

Yes!! I bought an expensive Queen size kit and when I started it I realized that I didn't like some of the fabrics. I ended up buying more fabric to go with the ones I did like and did a 9 patch with it. NOTHING like the original. It is on my design wall right now, waiting for the borders to be cut. Now I have the rest of the fabric to deal with. Might sell it on here, Moda Vine Creek.

Oh yea, I think I am working on one now - but I am trying to reserve judgement until I am done and it is washed - even if I don't like it - I am sure someone will love it.

rusty quilter 01-28-2011 10:25 AM

Yep. Been there done that. I usually put it away and pick it up in a year or so to see if it has improved...if not--I toss it and put the rest of the fabrics in my scrap bag.

SuzyQ 01-28-2011 10:45 AM

Yep, sure have. I just put it away and when I'm bored with or finished with a project, I may take it out and look at it again. Sometimes it's not so bad the 3rd or 4th time I look at it.

Terrible and I have just finished tearing apart a project I had been working on for months. Did not look good. Going to start over. :hunf:

I went through that just recently also. Found a quilt I liked, didn't have a pattern so sort of made it up as I went..nope. I knew I would never do anything with it, so I sent it out to be FMQ. She did a wonderful job!! Still don't like it though, so will give it to the homeless shelter. :)

I;m buzy UNsewing a quilt top now.Just couldn;t stand the sashing color.

Linda B 01-28-2011 05:26 PM

Oh, yeah. I specifically asked for a particular set of fat quarters for Christmas a couple of years ago. When I opened the gift and looked at it I said to myself "What in the world was I thinking?!?" I ended up using them to make reusable shopping bags. Everybody that sees them absolutely loves them! Go figure.

Ladyjanedoe 01-28-2011 05:32 PM

I did that with a Thimbleberries BOM once. I wanted to challenge myself to try doing something outside my normal "like" zone.I could never warm up to the fabrics and even today I avoid Thimbleberries stuff. It's not my style.

Epic , expensive fail .

Jim 01-28-2011 09:11 PM

I DID exactly the same thign...SIL and DTR picke dout special fabrics and a pattern I worked and worked getting it ALMOST together and I couldn't stand it. I finally told them I was gonna tear it apart and would buy them more(their choice) of fabrics and make a different one...it was just thier previous fabrics didn't look good together. So now they get 4 laptops and a new quilt too.

When that happens to me, I literally dismantle the kit, put the fabric into my stash, donate the pattern to my local library (mainly so I don't change my mind and try to do it again) and carry on. I find if you really don't like the project, you will never finish it.

sall 01-29-2011 02:38 AM

Yes. I bought a jelly roll because I loved the fabrics, but when I opened them out I was not so keen. Have finished the top except for the borders, but I am not happy with it and will have to gear myself up to finishing it. I will not enjoy quilting it

Ann L 01-29-2011 05:47 AM

Been there, done that many times. Lots of UFO's

whinnytoo 01-29-2011 06:27 AM

thats why I have a UFO thats over 20 yrs old! everytime I look at it, I just put it back

bigsister63 01-29-2011 07:02 AM

Donate the unquilted top. I was told by a quild menber that she gives away her tops to charety before quilting and they will finish quilt!

plainpat 01-29-2011 07:05 AM

Uh,yes.....I'm trying to do a pattern I tried before. Like the results, liked the fabric when I bought it, but no way it'll get finished. Shame on me...once should be enough.

samifel 01-29-2011 07:19 AM

Yep. been there. I usually finish them and then donate them to the nursing home or something like that. It's funny that our "mind's eye" sees things so differently than the reality....

PaperPrincess 01-29-2011 07:20 AM

Yes, I have one that fits the 'what was I thinking' bill color-wise. I also don't like the technique. I'm trying to force myself to finish it so I can donate it.

lisalovesquilting 01-29-2011 07:30 AM

Yes, it was a bargelo heart. I tried to use fabric from my stash, still bought 2 and ended up hating the color combination. BUT my sister loved it. It has found a home on her bed.
