Has anyone here tried a saddle chair?
 

What do you think about them? I am starting to see them all over on line, but no one local has one that I can try. They are supposed to be better for your back/posture, and more comfortable for long periods of sitting.

Yes, i have one and love it! Got it when i bought my sitdown longarm last year. I was a little skeptical at first, but quite honestly i can quilt for hours and be comfortable and not have a backache when done.

And it really is helpful for your posture in that it helps to strengthen your “core” muscles. I went to physical therapy a few years ago to do that after a lower back injury - its a lot more fun to accomplish the same thing while quilting! I really noticed during quilting that i am not stiff or fatigued when i get up to do the usual bobbin change/take a break and walk around thing ya gotta do! That was a very pleasant surprise!

At first you really have to pay attention to how you get on and off, but thats only because its just different from what you are accustomed to when “mounting and dismounting” but i dont even think about it anymore. Mine adjusts in both height and pitch of the seat.

I havent noticed ever seeing one at a quilt show that you could try out, but that sure would be a good suggestion for vendors! When i ordered my new machine last year, i asked about the chair since i had only heard about it or seen it in photos. They offered to bring me one to try out when they delivered/setup my new machine - how could i turn that down? While the guys were setting my machine up i sat in the chair and rolled around, etc (i have office chair mats placed where i sew or quilt since my Happy Place is carpeted) and it was great! I told the guys “you’re not taking this one back with you” and i called in my credit card number to the shop to take care of the details! If i remember correctly, it cost me just under $200.00 including tax.

Anyway, im just one person but it gets a thumbs up from me! I have been using it for a little over a year.

I have a padded saddle stool. It's very comfortable but mine is too short for sewing. I use it in my closet to put on my shoes. A saddle chair would be a nice sewing chair. I use a stool for my machine quilting but it's round, tilts, and turns with my body. It keeps me balanced so no aches or pains from long periods of quilting. I love it.

I don't have one but am looking into one. For now I straddle my regular chain and sit forward. My PT explained that until I could get one this was the better way to sit while sewing.

Yes I have one on my bike, got rid of the old seat and wow, what a difference. At first I thought I'll kill myself trying to get off of it. But no, I didn't crash, it was quite easy. Have someone hold the back of your chair the first few times until you get the hang of it.

My cousin has one and loves it.

I bought one and I wanted to love it. I bought it from Overstock and was out about 65 bucks. I bought it specifically for my sit down longarm. It is more like a bike seat than a saddle seat. It doesn't take long and I know exactly where my "sit bones" are. The best thing is that it literally makes me get up and move around a bit. Then I transfer back to my regular sewing chair and back and forth I go. Perhaps there are more comfortable saddle seats out there and I just happen to own an uncomfortable model.

I have a couple of friends who each own one and they both love theirs. They paid significantly more than $65, so maybe quality and comfort costs more.

I got my saddle stool free, by bargaining with the dealer when I bought my sit-down longarm at a quilt show. It was love at first "sit"... All the machine dealers had them. I love my stool so much that I plan to buy another one for my DSM downstairs.
