Has anyone made a quilt from award ribbons?
A friend of DH's daughter is wondering if I could make a quilt with all the ribbons her daughter has won for horsemanship. I've researched info on it but was wondering if anyone has actually made one and how it went. If I decide to do this, I'm looking for hints and what you learned about using the ribbons. Any help is welcomed!

I've never made one, but I would assume that you could applique the ribbons onto quilting cottons. Then piece the blocks as you would in a regular quilt. I would be extremely careful using heat (ironing/pressing) the blocks once the ribbons are attached as some of the ribbons are acetate material and can melt. Then maybe "echo" quilt around each ribbon.
Just my opinion. as I said, I've never made a quilt like this. Good luck! |

I have seen it done but never attempted it myself. Another thing i have seen, is a wreath made out of ribbons. Just another thought depending on the number of ribbons you are dealing with. More ideas:

There are antique quilts made of cigar box ribbons. I think in those days they were silk. However, they are very fragile as they would wear and tear easily. I suspect the horse ribbons would be the same. Maybe for a wall hanging?
