Has anyone made a quilt with scarves?
 

I know this might sound weird. My oldest sister has passed many years ago, and I was given all her scarves, various sizes. I would like to make a quilt with them. Of course most are silk I think. I was wondering if anyone has ever did this and how did you go about it. Thanks everyone ahead of time.

I grew up in the Ft. Wayne, Allen County area! I have never worked with silk for quilts I'm sure there will be many other suggestions. You could Google silk quilts or even YouTube/silk quilts. There should be some tutorials out there. Sorry, I can't be of more help but that's all I have!

I recall seeing silk in antique crazy quilts...it often is very frayed and wears out first...but it is pretty.

If you decided to do it I would suggest you back them with non woven interfacing...OK.. someone correct me on the interfacing name if I am wrong...it could be stabilizer or fusible...but it is NON WOVEN and fuses to the back of the fabric. It is what is used on T-shirt quilts...it keeps them from stretching out of shape.

Get some Pellon sf101. It is sold by the yard or bolt, can get it at Joann's or hancock fabrics or amazon. I buy it by the bolt as I use this is my go to stabilizer

I used the Pellon 906F on old silk clothing for a friend's quilt. Not sure what the difference is, but at least you have a choice ;-)

From what I can tell the Pellon 906f is 100% polyester and the Pellon sf101 is 100% cotton. Both are woven and fusible

Sounds like the SF101 gives a crisper finish for clothing, if the descriptions are any indication.

I would look at some of the quilts that use 'grandma's hankies'. There are some that use the hankies for the skirts of parasol girls, or butterflies. It should be interesting. Be sure to post a picture when you are done.

Thank you everyone for your input. I will definitely look into the stabilizers and see which they state will work the best. I had not seen or read anyone using scarves so I thought I would seek input. Definitely will post pictures. Thanks again.
