First I want to apologize if I am high jacking the thread but I wonder about the quality of their solid white fabric. I usually buy Kona but would like to know how other people feel about it. Specially now that Kona prices seem to be constantly on the increase.

Don't know about F&P BUT Connecting Threads sent out an announcement last fall that they would be carrying the more well known fabric company's fabric (more expensive). They also said that they would continue to sell their own $5.99 fabric.

I just received an answer to my email, from Connecting Threads. They will be carrying the same amount of their Fabric Lines as usual, introducing 2 new ones in each Catalog. They assured me the only changes were adding the designer fabrics. They also read this Forum and others to stay connected with quilters. Not to worry Ladies, I think we can still depend on them for great quality fabric and good service!!

I order from CT a good deal. I haven't found any problems with their products. I just bought 10 yards of their white fabric and it has a good hand to it and as good as any Kona I have used. I don't think $5.99 is to much for fabric as most of the LQS here are way more than that. I have found even some of the Moda fabrics I have purchased recently are no better than the fabrics I have bought from CT. I do use thread from CT and have had no problems with it.

Remember, most of the fabrics we buy are from overseas, Asian countries. All the major name brands have their fabrics made over there. There are a few US States trying to grow cotton but most of the fabric I have bought from them are solid colors. I am waiting for the prints to start coming out.
Also, when all our textile mills shut down here in the US which started back in the 60s, all the textile machines are sold right out of the mills. And there are no people to operate the machinery if it was still here. It would be a boon to the US economy if we could start producing our on textiles again.
But those days may have been long gone and never return. So all the mills you see along the highways and byways of America are just empty shells of what we used to have privilege to. I do try to but American made fabrics as often as I can and hope will be produced in the near future...

Emma you might try Moda Bella. I really like the feel of the Bella compared to Kona. I get mine at Thousand of Bolts, and it is $4.99 a yard. I got the Bella color chart from them, and it is so handy for picking the exact color I need. I have used some of the CC solids and liked them. I use their thread all the time.

I order from Connecting Threads often (mostly for thread and batting when they go on sale). It seems to me that they have ADDED new colors of thread (and they now have verigated and poly). I love their basics fabrics and don't really care about the new designer fabric lines.

Over her in UK we are lucky to find fabric as cheap as you. Our middle of range fabric is £12 that is $18. We feel lucky to go under this price usually in sales. Some ie downtown abbey are much dearer, ie batik.
we have an expensive hobby.

tellabella 01-08-2015 02:13 AM

But the less expensive fabrics at CT are not the same quality as LQS...OK to safe money for some projects but nice to have the higher quality choice too...there is a difference and you get what you pay for...

I read the same. - they explained the requests they had been receiving on their website

Jingle 01-08-2015 05:19 AM

Last time I ordered from them, they sent twice as much backing fabric that I ordered. One piece had a perfect 5" square cut out of it. I was able to get around it but, I will not order from them again. Some quality of thread isn't as good as it use to be. I only buy now from Hobby Lobby or Wal Mart mainly. I know what I am getting.

llweezie 01-08-2015 06:16 AM

Yes I have noticed the thread and the fabric! I was dissapointed in the catalog I got in the mail the other day. Guess I will shop somewhere else....!

Emma S 01-08-2015 06:36 AM

Thank you Jeanie & Joey for your input on the white. Next time I place an order I think I will get a couple of yards to just test it. Didn't realize that the Bella could be had so cheap, thanks for the tip Jeanie.
I enjoy purchasing CT fabric because their fabrics seem to be such great blenders and their colors are never muddy. Just as at other sites, I can't foresee spending close to $10 a yard when there are so many great fabrics out there for half the price.

crafty pat 01-08-2015 12:22 PM

I just got my new catalog yesterday. I wouldn't mind buying the fabric at the price they are selling for if I liked them, however I did not see a one that I liked. I do like some of their own fabrics and will keep ordering those.

You never know about the selling of sites and businesses these days. I was shocked to find out that Amazing Designs bought Sewing With Nancy/Nancy's Notions....they use her name..but it is Amazing Designs....which accounts for a lot of embroidery stuff you see on her sites for the last several years.

ro 01-08-2015 04:20 PM

i guess ya all dont remember when joann's was selling reasonable quality fabric at reasonable prices. they were taken over by another company, prices went up from 8 to 10 and 12 a yard. the quality went down and we all run there with our coupons to buy the fabric. i'd rather deal in the small mom and pop shop and get a better quality fabric for the money.

Scuddles 01-08-2015 05:33 PM

I just received the catalog from CT's It has a pretty chevron table runner on the cover. I haven't looked through it yet.

susan... 01-08-2015 07:01 PM

i contacted CT about changes they said they have the same number of new lines of their each year plus the higher price lines to appeal to a wider base.

mjhaess 01-12-2015 08:48 AM

I have noticed that they are carrying more expensive fabric...I have not heard that Fons and Porter bought them out.

Maybe the reason they sent twice as much was because of the piece that had a 5x5 inch cut out of it? I'm not understanding why you are upset... I would be thrilled if my order was doubled, cut or not cut...

SouthPStitches 01-12-2015 11:25 AM

IMHO, it is nice to have choices. The higher designer fabrics CT has carried hasn't appealed to me as a whole. That being said, at $9.99 a yard, it is cheaper than regular prices at the LQS of $12.99 and higher. Also, if you wait long enough, the designer fabric will also eventually be on sale. CT is still offering a new "traditional" fabric line(s) every six weeks or so. I have noticed the change but haven't viewed it in a negative way. I'll still check their site several times a month and will continue to be a loyal customer.

I have bought their solid white fabric and love it. Seems to be good quality to me.

Furballs: Thanks for the input, wanted to hear that at least one person liked it before I ordered, seems the white CT users are few and far between.

I never responded to your question about CT white. Guess I figured others would respond. I have actually made a couple quilts with the CT white and have been every bit as happy with CT as with Moda. Has held up well with many washings.

Last night I had a chance to really look at the latest CT catalog. Yes, there are higher priced fabrics in this catalog, but I like the way CT matches them up with their fabric. I have been very impressed with the customer service at CT and for that reason alone I will continue to buy from them.

coopah 01-13-2015 04:55 PM

I took another look at the catalog and love the cover fabric with the birds. Except I already have tons of bird fabrics. But CT will still be the first place I look before ordering fabric. They have always treated me well when I've called, they put ample fabric in their kits, and ship quickly. So it's win-win-win. :)
