Got my 2nd Featherweight, and the case is in "sad" shape, Does anyone have any experience with "spray painting" the cases, recovering??? and with what. I already bought a new handle for it, the box is okay just shabby and badly worn?

If you google it there is lots of info..some have stripped them down to wood and stained and varnished them..they look great!

I thought a 221 was NOT a featherweight?
Is the case wooden? |
221 and 222 ARE featherweights. I've heard of the cases being stripped to the bare wood and refinished. I've also heard of cleaning them and applying shoe polish.

My case, after many, many different ways to get rid of it...still stink a bit from mildew....I have killed the mildew, and this is just a bit of an old odor left over. Maybe stripping the inside fabric will get rid of the remaining scent.

I am going to follow this. I purchased a new case, but have put "Ilah's" original case away. Hopefully it won't deteriorate further. I would like to rehab it if possible.

There is no oder problem with my case, just would like to know if anyone has ever spray painted one successfully...I have used a black marker on the scuffed parts, but would like a better finish on it.

I bought some black duct tape & very neatly covered the corners & it's still in tact. Doesn't look bad at all

Dave McCallum suggests black kiwi shoe polish. Rub it on, let is set for 30mins then buff.

I used black liquid shoe polish on the outside. It looks good. Covered a multitude of scuff marks. Glued loose places down with crazy glue.

Armor All works nicely - I cleaned up the metal parts, touched up with a permanent magic marker and then used my husband's car's Armor All and it is beautiful - have done the same for two friends cases.
When I first received my machine from ebay, I used a cloth damp with Spore a Clean ( Xyme Away now) on the case and wiped down both the inside and outside, I set it out in the sun for 3 days and then put dryer sheets inside and closed it up for three more days. Then I cleaned up the latches very carefully with a toothbrush and tooth paste (brillo soap pad on some of the rust), then used the armor all on the outside and shined it up. Beautiful - did the other two cases the same. When I put it away, I put a dryer sheet in it. |
