Sometimes these panels go for so much more than they are worth. At least you have a backup plan. I've taken them apart - washed the fabrics separately - and they turned out just fine.

Take out a few stitches in a hidden place then run your fingernail over the holes and see if they close. You could also stay stitch around the pictures you want to use (to hold the quilting together) then do the quilt-as-you-go method.

how about applying a satin binding and calling it done?
