Has anyone tried Leah Day's method of suspending their quilt
 

from the ceiling in order to do FMQ on a DSM?

I have a Janome 1600DBX which has the 9 inch harp, still the quilt is hard to keep from sliding off of the table.

I want to see if others have had a go with this set up.

Oh my gosh that is a great idea but I can't imagine putting those handles in the ceilings of the rooms I quilt in! Will also be curious to see who else does this and what their results are.

I have seen something similar, but it was held in place by a wood frame sitting on the table. The people from whom I bought my HQ16 made one for the Sweet16. Not so sure I would ever want my ceiling messed up. I alswo move my sewing cabinet to different places depending on what all I am doing.

I just use extra tables in front of my machine, and beside it if needed,so the quilt bv stays at machine level without any drag. Bougth the Lifetime tables that are easy to store and put up.

Wow! It looks like that would really solve problems of weight/falling off the table/etc.

I think unless you are really serious about quilting, and have some major dedicated space, it isn't viable for most people.

That said- it definitely works. Caryl Bryer Fallert was shown using this method in the documentary "Stitched". I think that is where Leah got the idea.

I have watched her video several times and my son is going to come over next weekend to see if he can figure out how to do that in my sewing room, which is also my den where my family gathers when they are all here. It looks like it would save a lot of strain on my neck and shoulders. I have a pinched nerve at C4 and cant FMQ very long at a time without a break. I hope he can make it work for me. Going to keep a watch on this thread to see what others think.

Thanks for the responses. I am not very concerned about the holes in the ceiling. I have had rotator cuff surgery and it was not successful. I am going to give it a try and let you know
