Has anyone tried this tool for binding?

I was thinking about purchasing the perfect binding miter tool. Does anyone own one and if so, do you think it is helpful? Thank you.

ontheriver 04-07-2013 03:36 AM

I think I have one somewhere, never used it. All I do is make 1/4 in from end of seam so I know where to stop before turning.

quiltinghere 04-07-2013 05:18 AM

I just use any ruler

mighty 04-07-2013 06:50 AM

I have one, I have never used it.

Sneed 04-07-2013 07:20 AM

Yes, and it works IF an WHEN you can figure out how to use it. Be sure to watch the video to try to figure it out. It took me forever, but once the lights came on I felt like an idiot for not seeing it sooner. Now I have a little "sample" that I pull out every time that it it "binding time." My brain just couldn't remember the process as I don't finish quilts as fast as I would like.

you don't need any "tool" for making good bindings Just be sure to have consistent and accurate seams right down the the end of the row Carefully fold all parts for mitre...........if something doesn't work, then rip it out and figure out why it didn't. bet you will discover seams not consistent.

Yes, I have it and use it all the time. The trick is to stop slightly before the mark.
If you go over the mark chances are you will get a rabbit ear.

I use the Fons & Porter binding tool. It's easy. It works perfect every time and its inexpensive.

I use this one, too. I used to have a lot of trouble with bindings and now mine are perfect. It's available from the same place as your link: http://www.connectingthreads.com/too...l__D81849.html
or you can usually use a coupon at Joann's (and they're on sale a lot there).

AliKat 04-07-2013 09:35 AM

Nope. don't have and don't want. I have too many tools already. Or so it seems.

SherriB 04-07-2013 09:45 AM

I have one also and never used it. If I could find it, I would send it to you free of charge.

BellaBoo 04-07-2013 09:49 AM

I would buy it and I did. It's small and fast to use. The cut out slits are what I like about it.

copycat 04-08-2013 02:57 AM

Thank you to all who gave me advice. I like the fact that it is small and the slits are used to get the exact measurement. I tend to slip at times using my ruler when marking the 1/4''. At a cost of $4 or maybe less at Joanns , I will give this gadget a try. :)

quiltsRfun 04-08-2013 12:22 PM

I have one but have only used it a couple of times. If I had it do do over again I'd spend my money on something else.

mckwilter 04-08-2013 12:40 PM

It's for marking the corners so you get a nice mitered corner. The different sizes are for the different widths you may use. For example, I never make a 1/4" binding on my quilts. Mine are usually 3/8" or 1/2". I just like them a little wider. However, I usually just use a ruler.

callen 04-09-2013 03:31 AM

I have one & never use it. All you have to do is stop 1/4" from the edge & you can measure that with any ruler.

mjsylvstr 04-09-2013 04:08 AM

I bought it, used it and like it very much...but now just use my eye for the corners. It was a big help in the beginning and am glad to have had it.

tessagin 04-09-2013 04:57 AM

Have had a mitre tool for many years. Saw a video on Jenny Doan (sans mitre tool) and did the best binding on a small dog quilt. The mitre tool never was taken out of the package. LOL

Jeannette51 04-09-2013 05:13 AM

It's another gadget I bought in my early stages of quilting, never used it. I just mark my edges and my bindings seem to come out fine. Sometimes I think these gadgets are developed just to get our money.

solstice3 04-09-2013 05:20 AM

A friend of mine who is a long time quilter bought it and loves it. She has offered to loan it to me next time I am binding so I can check it out.

sweetlummi 04-09-2013 06:53 AM

it look like more work to us it. they do should you how to do it with out that first lol

bibi 04-09-2013 07:00 AM

Have it but it seemed too much work to pull it out, then read the instruction, etc. So yes but I am not using it.

nananurse 04-09-2013 11:10 AM

I'm like ontheriver I just mark 1/4 inch from the end and stop then turn.

applique 04-14-2013 05:18 AM

Yes, I use it.

nativetexan 04-14-2013 05:57 AM

pretty much No. I have a mitering one somewhere, never use it. have the binding connection one too and never use it. I will save it for braid quilts. you stop stitching 1/4 from the corner, then stitch off (I do that at an angle) then remove your quilt from under needle. place binding straight above that corner and fold down evenly with edge of quilt, place under needle and start sewing again. continue on. you have just made your miter. try and try again. you will get it and realize how easy it really is.
