Has anyone tried this yet, or even seen it?

I was pulling coupons out of the Sunday paper today and saw one for Purex No Sort laundry soap. The ad said you can wash light and darks together with no run. I guess it takes the place of color catchers, one less step. (I tend to forget to throw them in.) Anyway, wondered if anyone tried it and has any input?

Annie68 03-16-2014 11:53 AM

Hmmm, sounds like a pretty good product if it works. Haven't seen it in my stores yet, may look for it.

meyert 03-16-2014 01:28 PM

I saw the coupon too. I cut them out because I will probably check it out.. but haven't heard anything about it yet

Onebyone 03-16-2014 01:42 PM

I will certainly try it. I use Tide Pods but if this works as claims it's a winner.

dunster 03-16-2014 01:48 PM

The web site holds this warning:
* Purex® No Sort™ detergent is packed with innovation, but it can’t perform miracles, so please follow these words of advice: wash strongly colored fabrics or new pieces of clothing, especially jeans, separately at least 5 times before doing a mixed color load with Purex® No Sort™ detergent

So if you need to wash your strongly colored fabric 5 times before using - is that a good product for quilting?

peaceandjoy 03-16-2014 04:03 PM

One of the major brands, either Tide or Cheer, did this a few years ago. Although I never tried it personally, I seem to remember that the lighter colors became dull. I haven't heard about it or seen it any more, so assume it did not sell well enough to warrant shelf space.

sounds like regular laundry detergent to me. I always wash my whites with my other clothes that have been washed several times - no problems. And I usually use hot water.

Bluelady 03-16-2014 05:08 PM

My son does his own laundry. He tried "no sorting" (different detergent than one discussed here.)
He now has pink t-shirts. I think he may sort from now on..

celwood 03-17-2014 03:53 AM

I tend to wash my whites in hot water and the colors in cold water...

Title of Your Thread

May I suggest that you give your thread a more specific title instead of the vague information one of "Has anyone tried this yet, or even seen it?" If it said Has anyone tried * Purex® No Sort™ detergent yet, or even seen it?; I would be more apt to read and reply. Maybe it's just me.

ziegamomma 03-17-2014 04:50 AM

Z, I agree with your subject heading suggestion. All the "Need help, please" subject headings are so vague, Ihave almost quit reading them.
As for the detergent, I will continue to sort. My experience with other detergents in the past is that the mixing of colors dulls the whites and lights. I wash darks in a detergent for dark clothes. That makes a real difference in preserving the dark colors.

Weezy Rider 03-17-2014 04:52 AM

I was everything in cold water and don't sort. New blue jeans get washed by themselves for a bit. Fabric that bleeds also gets washed. I use Ecos Baby Laundry detergent.

tessagin 03-17-2014 04:58 AM

I'm going to just continue on as I've done my laundry in the pass. There's always that one little step they forget to tell you about. I do my whites together in warm and everything else in cold. I bleach very little since I've found ammonia gets rid of any grease and most stains as long as I presoak. I have a basket for presoaks sitting on top of the washer and all things needing presoak go in to it. While those get presoaked, I sort the rest of the laundry.

garysgal 03-17-2014 11:28 AM

I for one don't mind how she worded her thread. I thinks it entices you to check it out. I'm glad I did, I just learned about a new product that might help with quilting! Thanks for posting it yngldy.

I HOPE he look fabulous in pink. Wish you had a picture to post. I will stick with Color catchers. It works and that is what counts.

barny 03-17-2014 01:23 PM

I see nothing wrong with the titles of threads. If we're interested enough we'll read.

Weezy Rider 03-17-2014 02:30 PM

Years ago, with a wringer washer and no auto fill, you did the sheets in the hottest water and progressed downward in the same water to the work clothes in cold. Didn't seem to hurt anything.

sept97 03-17-2014 03:43 PM

for 36 years I have never separated colors, when I have enough for a load I do it

judylg 03-17-2014 08:09 PM

I agree with you. I looked and so did anyone else who looked at the quesiton.
Getting to the question, I think for most of my wash I will continue to sort, now I do have a navy t shirt that has white arms, it might be good for this as the white is not as white as I would like to see.

I don't really like this kind of title for a thread, but it got me in here. I just have to click on it to see what it is about. Gullible I guess.

BettyGee 03-18-2014 07:05 AM

Haven't seen it, but I'd be very likely to avoid it. Too many years of laundry to take a chance. My husband puts all colors together if he doesn't have a full load; black sweat pants with white underwear. I've tried to explain, after 50 years, that you can't do that. Ah, so I have grey underpants for a few weeks guess there are worse things.

Onebyone 03-18-2014 08:05 AM

I don't care how a subject is titled. I learn something with every post. Funny those that read it anyway even when they say they probably wouldn't. LOL

I bought some of this this morning using the coupon and a package of brand new white tee shirts. I have a few yards of dark fabric to wash and I'm tossing in one brand new out of the package white tee shirts. I'll compare the shirt to the other new one after washing. Later when I have more dark fabric to wash I'll use my regular Tide Pods and toss in the other new tee shirt and compare to this one. I like to know if something works or not for me, I don't care about reviews from anyone that hasn't tried it.

As a wife and mother of three boys, believe me during the years there were many loads of pink male underware, but I found a hint years ago that always worked. Any article that has had color bleed onto it can have it removed by washing it with an old pair of jeans-worked every time.

annie123 03-18-2014 09:41 AM

the title of this post intrigued me to read further. As I read on I lost interest in the opinions about laundry soap and found myself feeling badly for the poster who just asked a question and did not deserve such a critical response from a couple posters.

When we went to orientation at NC State with our son in 2000, one of the advisers said, "Moms, teach you sons how to sort laundry. After about two weeks, we see many guys wearing pink shirts!" The main NC State color is red!!!!

Hey Betty, some people pay big money for colored underpants (haha). Just need to put your bra in the same laundry and then you would have a matched set. As long as I have been sorting laundry it's second nature for me. I love my color catchers. Always good to know about new products, right? Will be watching to see the response of those who used it. Wow Bluelady, I just looked at the blocks for Boomerang 11. I don't have a clue what boomerang 11 is but the blocks are spectacular. Joyce in DE

The new tee shirt looks as white as it did before washing. I had several yards of Jenny Beyer deep tone fabrics in the wash with it. I'll post again when I wash more of the same fabric and new tee shirt using the regular detergent. I don't like to have a lot of washed fabric piled up to iron.
