Has anyone used Annies soft and stable for
bags and or purses? It sounds wonderful, I am wondering how long it looks nice in a bag that is being used and how easy it is to use. The information I read and the video I saw makes it look like really good stuff. I would have to order it at Joann's or her shop so need some input on it.

I haven't heard of it before. I guess I'll have to look it up. Sorry I'm no help
I used it for a purse and loved it. The purse stood up and no flopping. Plan to use it for all future bags and purses.
Haven't heard of it either. Have you look on Amazon for any reviews??
I used it in a bag I made just over a year ago. It is still looking great. It gives the bag a lot more structure than batting, and looks really professional. If you have to order it, Connecting Threads carries it at a good price. I ordered 3 more packages a few months ago when I had seen how well it was holding up!

Great Stuff...would not make a purse without it.

Missouri Star Quilt company had a daily special a few weeks ago for Bosal In-R Form Plus. I bought a package to see exactly what it was. It's fusible on both sides with foam in the middle, easy to sew through. Excellent product. Made is USA too.

I love it. I didn't want a fusible one. Pellon has a foam similar, but the Soft & Stable is actually a tad thinner, which I prefer in the seam allowances. It's very easy to work with. I usually use 3/8" to 1/2" seams and prefer to zigzag the edges to help reduce the bulk. I've been buying it on ebay. Bicwarehouse usually has good prices and free shipping.

Wow, thanks for all the help and info. I want to give it a try.
I love Soft and Stable. I have used it in the over 60 tote bags that I have made for family and friends. Quilting the bags with Soft and Stable is fun. For the handles, I use an iron-on interfacing though.
Soft and stable and the inn-spire version both work very well
Bosal is very thin too. I fuse fabric to both sides and then cut the fabric for the tote or purse. Sew together as usual. I also used it to make an applique flowers in a basket look fantastic on a wall hanging.
I love it, too! It's great stuff.
if you go to massdrop.com they have a group buy for this right now.
I love it and have also used it in the straps of my purses because I like a little padding in them. I cut the soft not stable in a 1 inch syrup and fold the fabric over and top stitch both sides.
I've been using fusible fleece for my purses. It works great but I might have to try this, too. I love trying new stuff.
I love Soft & Stable- would not use anything else for bags!
The Bosal in r foam is great too. It comes in fusible or non-fusible. I think Craftsy have it at a good price if you want to try it as well.
I use headliner fabric. Hancock's or Joann's both carry it. It's a lighter weight but a lot cheaper and holds up well....
I have used this product for three bags that are used quite often. They have held up very nice and stand right up. This product and Bosal are equally. Bosal is fusible so I like that a lot. The soft and Stable I used was not fusible but not really hard to work with.
I love Soft and Stable and have made quilted slippers using it. It comes in various sizes so plan carefully how much you will need as it is rather pricey. I got mine on Amazon which carries all the different size rolls. I have also found it in some quilt shops. It gives more body than fusible fleece and a lot more structure than batting. It does not have a grain to it so you can cut your pieces out in the least wasteful position. I have never joined it so don't know how that would work. I have also used it for place mats when I wanted extra body.

I used Soft and Stable in a large bag that I made about three years ago. It is wonderful. The bag stands up without collapsing and is very light weight. The only thing that I didn't care for was quilting it. I quilted it on my home sewing machine and it was difficult to get through. Other than that, it was easy to sew and the seams weren't bulky.

Hi, Sewbeadit
Yes, I tried it took a class a year ago at Nancy Notions Sewing Weekend and we did the round robin and our project was a tote bag and the kit had "Soft and Stable", I personally did not like it. You may like it give it a try I see many tutorials on youtube that use the product to make tote bags/hand bags. Give it a try it depends on what you like working with to get the best look you desire. |
I have not made a purse with it, but I plan to. I have used it to insulate water bottle covers.
it is the best stuff in the world. I can not say enough good about it. Easy to work with, holds up well, looks great, does not add weight to the bag.

It's the best stabilizer for bags! I like the sew in type better than the fusible. I had some issues with wrinkles and peeled the fabric from the fusible after I had partially sewn the bag together.
I have used both Soft and Stable and the headliner fabric at JoAnn's. I like them both and honestly can't tell the difference between the two. I've made a lot of tote bags and don't remember which ones have which product. JoAnn's is a lot less money especially if you have a coupon, and it's always available. Annie's you have to order and pay shipping.

I used it in a tote bag that I have had for 2 years. It has been used pretty much and washed twice. So far I love it.
Great topic Sewbeadit! Thanks everyone for the wonderful input.
I've used it -- I like it much better than batting. You can also use headliner fabric.
My favorite bag is an oversized tote used to deliver customers' quilts to them. I use Soft and Stable and it has held up beautifully. I have washed it many ,
many times and it still holds it shape! |
I will not make a bag and not use it. It's very easy to cut and sew through. It makes a bag stand up by itself, but it's not stiff. I made a large bag to hold my knitting and it's held up very well. I just ordered 3 yards thru Massdrop. I have it in both black and white. I really suggest you try it, I'm sure you'll like it and prefer to use it over batting and interfacing.
