I have not worn out a foot pedal on any of my machines yet! Have you taken apart the pedal and had a look? There is a thread on the board where the same thing happened and the lady's husband opened the pedal and it was full of fluff, kind of the way all the gunge gets in your machine from sewing. He cleaned it out and it worked perfectly. Worth a try?

Carefully take your foot pedal apart and see if there are metal contacts that run over a metal piece. If so, take a new dollar bill and move the dollar bill between the contacts and the metal piece to clean it. I've done this and pedal worked again.

I had a Kenmore machine and I wore out the foot pedal. It was replaced and then I got a different machine. My neice is still using the machine but she does not sew as much as I did so it is still working fine for her.

Mine quit working or wouldn't stop when i took my foot off. I blew some air nside of it and it works perfectly. I think they must get a lot of dust inside of them. Try thst before you ditch it.

One of my machines, the foot pedal runs by air. I dropped a rotary cutter on the cord (tube) and didn't know it nicked it. My foot pedal wouldn't work but a few seconds at a time. After buying another I put tape on the old one and it works great. I threaded the new cord through plastic tubing to prevent damage to the line. It's odd, the foot pedal has no electric parts at all.

Thanks for the suggestion of taking it apart, notmorecraft and katydidkg, I will try that before doing anything else, and I'll let you know how it goes! I've never heard of a non-electric foot pedal, BellaBoo - how cool is that?

I took it apart - there was no lint build-up, but I bent the little bar that pushes down the switch when you mash the pedal to be closer to the switch (and therefore push the switch harder/farther) and it works perfectly again!! Thanks everybody!

Several years ago, about 15 or more, I had to have the foot pedal replaced. It got hot, had it in the shop for repairs and he replaced the it. I still have the machine but don't use it as I prefer the newer ones I have. I bought that machine in 1961 or 1962.

My friend's Bernina foot pedal actually "exploded" one day when she pressed on it. Pieces flew all over. It was originally her mother's and had a lot of use.
