Well, I quilt on my DSM. The part I hate the most is layering and pinning. Then because it is such a chore to manipulate a large quilt in a DSM, I usually do some form of meander - even though I would rather learn to do more. I admire Harriet Hargrave's and Diane Gaudynski's heirloom quilting that they do on their DSM. But I have come to the conclusion that I do not have the patience on my DSM.

I just recently took a long arm certification class and rented time on their machine to quilt 2 quilts on a long arm at a local quilt shop. LOVE it! Of course I still only did some version of meandering -since I am not yet skilled at doing designs in individual blocks.

Hope to join their longarm club to learn to do more!

I'm with you nvb, love the Quilt as you Go method! Only my machine is a 1978 Elna SU!

How about a case? LOL!!!

I have quilted ALL of my quilts on my Bernina 1530 without a problem for over 25 years. Now I just quilt smaller items being disable. It is really a matter of having the correct support on your left side and 5 feet forward and an excellent chair. Now I can only quilt smaller items and charity tops.

I am going to try the wine idea AND quilt as you go for my next quilt!

Since I cannot possibly afford to purchase a long arm machine, and also do not have the space for one, I think I would stick with a good bottle of wine and a big box of truffles. LOL.

Since I don't care for wine--never cultivated a "drinking taste during my younger years"--I am glad to have a LA and the space in my sewing room for it--I use it for a dozen other uses, such as previewing squares as I put them together and they stay there while I am putting a line of them together--using the table as a straight edge for trimming after the quilting process is finished--using the table as a cutting surface so the different pieces can be lined up in the order of sewing--in other words I am thankful to have a LA and the space in my sewing room for it.

As for the chocolate, I keep a good supply on hand for me and for anyone who is here to visit, sew, quilt, whatever we have in mind when we make that trek out to my sewing room. Someday, when I learn how to do it without having to call in a grandkid or SIL or DD, I'll post some pictures....

......... then there is the wine cheese that I had at Christmas
and chocolate cheese I had a couple of years ago!
