I have never used wool batting. Do you wash it first so it doesnt shrink? I know warm and natural (which is what I always use) does have some shrinkage, but does wool have more or less? Also, is it lighter weight(in how it feels when you use it)?

It seems as though warm & natural feels heavy in a large quilt, I was wondering how wool batting would compare?

I have used Hobbs Tuscany wool and did not prewash because it is not supposed to shrink much, if at all. Care will depend on the batting you select. Go by the label information.

I've only seen one quilting disaster with wool batting and it was on QB. I think it would depend upon the instructions that came with your batt. The person who posted hers, ended up taking all the quilting out and requilted it with another batting. I don't remember what brand she used but maybe you can find the post or someone else will chime in with the answer.

I want to try it. Real wool always made me itch, was wondering about the batting, probaly not since there would be fabric in there

I use Hobbs Heirloom and I have never prewashed it.The winter quilt on my bed was made with it and has been washed 5 or six times and dried in the dryer. So far, no ill effects.

Shrinkage and how far apart you can quilt depends on what brand you use. It is not itchy at all-very soft and light, an absolute pleasure to hand quilt. I love it.
