I have been making a pattern I got at Road to CA last year. I got the top on the quilt frame, and noticed that it was much smaller than the backing and batting than I had calculated. I was looking and looking....and looking. Then I measured, and realized that the top was small...??? Then I went and looked at the pattern, and sure enough, I had left off the 2 narrow borders on the pattern. I looked at the pattern, I looked at my quilt top....and decided to leave them off. The quilt is plenty all by itself without the borders. Also, saved me about an hour of taking it off, cutting and sewing borders and putting it back...maybe about 2 hours!!

I haven't left them off but have added to them. As long as you like the quilt, that is all that matters. There are NO quilt police that I know of.

Why not? If you like the quilt the way it is, go for it. It is your quilt after all. I altered the quilt showing in my avatar. The pattern had some small pieced blocks which I did sew. When I layed out all of the blocks before assembling the quilt I thought these blocks were "too busy" so I changed them to my liking. I sent a picture to the pattern designer pointing out my changes and she liked it as well, so much that she was going to post it on her facebook page.
I hope you post pictures when you finish your quilt. |
I will!! Thanks. It'll be My Red Tulip Garden

When I start with a pattern, I never end up following it. There have been times I regret it, but I always think I know better.

As my friend says, "Quilt patterns are just suggestions".... LOL

Sounds like you like it as is. It's your quilt - do as you please.

have fun

I tend to add borders not delete them. But, if it looks good to you, that's all that counts.

The important thing is you like it. It's your quilt......do what makes you happy. I can't wait to see it.
