Have you ever commissioned a custom batik dye job? Is this possible?
I'm struggling finding a light batik to use for a Shakespeare in the Park (I've been contemplating just using all mediums and darks because I couldn't find a light I liked but advice has told me that I really need more contrast which I agree). Here is the thread: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post6769088
I think I want to use the same light fabric for all the "light" values in this quilt. Has anyone ever commissioned someone to custom dye white batiks to the color you are wanting? I want something that is very, very light with just a subtle swirl of blues and lavendars. I've found a few almost good matches (Java Light Pink and something else) but they have a yellow tone swirled into them that I do not like. I find that the Bali 1895 fabrics don't go light enough. If you have done this, can you tell me about your experience and who you used if you remember? Thanks. |
I have never seen a place advertizing it, but there is a place called Hand Dyed fabrics by Lori on the FabShopHop. Here is the website: http://www.labfabrics.com/ Who knows, maybe they do custom jobs. Worth an email.

There is also "Spoonflower", that print your own designs.

I have never see a place to make your own dyed Batiks. I would have loved it for a quilt or two that I have done before. You might just have to keep looking and collecting Batiks.

Have you looked at Stonehenge fabrics by Northcott or Fossil Ferns by Bernartex? These are two lines of fabrics that have almost a batik look and blend well with batiks. Both lines come in a vast spectrum of colors.

Look at the Anthropology line....I think you can find it at Eleanor Burns' quilt store, or maybe Quilt in a Day. Might save you some trouble.

You might check if there is anything that could work on this site:
http://www.backsidefabrics.com/batik...quilt-backing/ It's 108" fabric for backing, so you could get a lot of fabric at a decent price, if you found a pattern you liked. |

Click on "creams & Tans" Directly under the page numbers, choose "Batiks" for fabric type. They have several very nice looking light batiks. I have not ordered from them but do intend to when I start another Judy Niemeyer quilt that requires a light background. |
I read a blog of a lady who sells her hand dyes on etsy. I am not affliated, but I have some of her fabrics on my bucket list! She will also do custom orders.
