Have you ever done anything like this?
I don't have a picture, but a long while back, I was visiting a small country quilt shop. The owner was sooo sweet and had a lot of items on the wall that she had done. The one I would like to try is a beautiful one yard panel that was an amazing scenery something like a Thomas Kincaid picture. She took the panel and using fusible webbing, she fused 3/4" grogaine ribbon across and down on the panel. The ribbon was made to look like an old timey window with the wood that separated the glass. Then she took the scene with the ribbon and framed it in white about 4" wide with mitered corners. She had backed it using a plain fabric and cotton batting. Then she lightly quilted it. It looked just like you were looking out the window into a beautiful garden.
If you have ever done one of these, could you post a picture to refresh my memory? I have a beautiful scenery panel I would like to do. Thanks in advance. |
Well, I guess no one has done one. If anyone knows of a link I can check on for instructions I would appreciate it.
|
I have not done one but I think there are patterns out there for something similar. They are made to look like a black rot Iron fence. Very pretty done up.

Many are busy with their morning routines at the time you posted your inquiry. No I have not done what you have described ... though IMHO it would be a real challenge to get those lines going straight!!! |

Is the picture of santa thru the window something like what you are looking for?

I have done this with black fabric and Steam a Seam to make it look like a window or gate you are looking through. Eas fast project. There are patterns and books showing this technique.
|
Love this...was that a pattern? pls lead me to it

I am sorry for being impatient. and I thank you for your comments. Impatience is one of my many faults.

Impatience is one of my many faults, too! We must be soul sisters.
I've not seen it with the black fabric on top, but our guild just had a demo where you put the fusible on the back of the picture and then cut it apart and fuse it on to black fabric. It gives the effect of looking through a window. I should think moving around big pieces from the panel would be easier to keep your lines straight. |
Twinkie,
Google Attic Window quilts and see if there are some examples of what you are looking for. I know there is a book out that shows how to take panels and make them into windows. I used to have the book, loaned it out to someone and it was never returned so cannot tell you what the name is sorry. Hope this helps a bit. Brenda |

I saw one done in a quilt shop in St George, Utah. She just cut the panel and sashed each piece with black fabric. The sashing was 1" finished. She used wood grain fabric for the borders.
|
this looks really cool. I love it with the wood grain fabric.
|
This is one where you cut the panel apart and then sash it.

check this site. It may be what you're talking about. Quite beautiful. I didn't see them at the Houston quilt show this year--may have missed them--but I've seen them in years past. It's from a company called "The Creative Iron,' and features laser cut fusible appliques.
