Have you made a quilt without batting?
I'm making a quick baby quilt and was thinking of just the pieced top and soft flannel backing (quilted). The baby is in Arizona so it is not needed for warmth. My only concern is that it might seem flimsy. Thanks for any input and experiences.

Our kids had baby quilts with flannel back, no batting, made by my Aunt. The quilts got used a lot and they were my favorite because they were soft and draped around the child nicely. I’ve made them myself many times since.

Quilt without batting
I have made several, what I call "comfort quilts". They vary a bit in size but are close to a throw size. Quilted front and fleece or Minky back. I am not going to use fleece any more because no matter how much I pay for the fabric, it pills and looks awful, so Minky or Cuddle by Shannon is what I'm using now. No batting!!! Also, do not need heavy quilting except to cover seams. I either do a SITD or the wavy pattern I have on my machine that goes back and forth over the seam. Works for me as I am not a "heavy" quilter.

No, I would not make a quilt without batting. I did make a table topper without batting I found it very hard to quilt.
I don't know anyone in a warm/hot state. |
Yes, I live in Central Florida & made a quilt without batting. Just a top & a back. I love it!! Perfect weight for most of the year! What you're planning sounds perfect for Arizona!

I think a flannel back will be plenty warm and cozy. I wouldn't use batting.

My quilting friend is making baby quilts to be sold at a fundraiser. Some are flannel, some fleece, some minky, none with batting. They are all soft and adorable!!

Just finished one. Up North, back with fleece. In FL, cotton.

I've made several with flannel backs and no batting, baby blanket and throw size. I'm actually under one right now, perfect weight for cuddling into while watching TV.

Funny, I recently had this same dilemma. I just but the binding on my grandson’s quilt this weekend. I used Cuddle for the backing, I did not use batting based on feedback I got from members here on the QB. The Cuddle is substantial and since they live in Key West the quilt would have been too heavy for his crib. I was fearful that it wouldn’t feel like a quilt but it turned out wonderfully and cuddly.
