Have you made the quilted mug rugs?

We have been talking about these in live chat at midnight. Yes some of us are chatting at midnight (Midnight Owl Club) come and join us sometime we talk about all kinds of things. It is fun to chat with quilters from all over the world in live chat. As you never know who will pop in to chat from quilting board quilters.

He-he-he.....I warn you we "Midnight Owl Club" members are a "wild and crazy" bunch!!!! We have SOOOOO much fun AND learn alot!!

Would love to see a picture. My sister makes potholders and gifts me with some several times a year, so I use those as coasters for both hot and cold drinks. The cotton absorbs the condensation of the cold drinks and the teflon fabric protects the surface from the hot cups. I use them as mini place mats for bowls, etc., too.

Mug rugs are what I am making for christmas gifts for all the ladies at work. They are very easy and lots of fun to make. they make up very quickly. I make mine 6' X 9' with 2 fat quarters I can get 4 using 1 for front and 1 for back. Also it is an easy way to practice different blocks

I just found this tutorial but his one makes a smaller version, but you could enlarge it to make it bigger

I have been reading that the mug rugs are 6 x 9, 5 x 10 etc.

http://www.articlesfactory.com/artic...-mug-rugs.html

another pattern in pdf (* 8 pages to print) and you could make it bigger but this give us the general idea and also a cute way to applique and make cute towels

Not yet, but intend to try! Does seem like a good way to practice different squares, which I need!

Mug rugs sounds like a great way to use up my scraps, try a new pattern etc. What would you put in it so moisture wouldn't get on your table or isn't that necessary?

BellaBoo 10-09-2010 08:39 AM

Looks like a thin potholder. I don't think a pattern is needed to make one.

Could you use the silver ironing board stuff? How about the rubber-nubby stuff for footie pjs - I only thought of this because I'm rather clumsy and this would keep the rug from sliding off the table (don't ask). Ok, now another project added to the list!

How do you get on live chat?

If you look up at the top of your screen where is has the title "Quilting Board - The Quilter's Message Board"
Look right under that and you will see all the different pages like "Home", "Quilting Newsletter", "Live Chat (#)", etc.
Click on the "LIVE CHAT" and a new window will open for you.
You will see a list on the right of who all is on there, etc.
At that point the folks on live chat can help you if needed.
Give it a try.....I LOVE it! Have made lots of great friends.
Hope this helps!

They're cute! Would be a great project for learning a new technique, or teaching a child to quilt.

sunflower126 10-28-2010 04:30 PM

What about putting insul brite in them? Do you think that would help to keep the cup warm or just protect your table top?

nwm50 11-06-2010 03:12 PM

yes....either insulbrite or warm/natural batting will work ! But don't overquilt or it will be flatter than a 2 layer of fabric done together...ask me how i know

OHSue 11-06-2010 03:22 PM

I made bunches of these last year using this pattern...
http://allsorts.typepad.com/allsorts...ross_coas.html
They worked up really quick, but don't really satisfy the need to quilt. I even got my son in on the project, which always makes it fun for me.

Annasgrannie 11-07-2010 06:08 AM

Thanks for the pattern link--like this one the best--I think my skill level is just right for these.
