Have you quilted using a 100% polyster sheet for backing?????
 

I am having heck quilting on my LA but the customer wants to use this 100% polyster sheet which is thin and slippery. I welcome advice.

I'd explain to the customer the difficulties of using polyester and the problems you're having. Tell her to get something more appropriate or take the quilt elswhere. She would end up with an unsatisfactory job, and you will likely get bad publicity from her, not to mention frustration for yourself. I use a lot of sheeting with 20%poly & 80%cotton with no trouble, but one with 80poly was terrible. That quilt developed lots of pilling as well. Your lady would find it hard to get any LA'er to tackle this

thin/fine thread, small needle, loosen top tension a little bit- tell her, polyester sheets are *ok* for tied quilts- but not so great for long-arm quilting- you have to slow way down- check constantly for skipping stitches-- most of the long arm quilters I now just say no- sorry- polyester sheets really are not well suited for this purpose.
if you really want to do it for her it's going to take you a while...slow & steady- going back over areas often ,,, if you are long-arm quilting for customers you should have policies written out- stating what you will accept-
what you are using for batting also plays a part. you 'might' be able to stabilize the polyester sheet with spray basting it to the batting, or adding a thin lightweight fusible interfacing- but that isn't going to make a lot of difference with the skips- just with it sliding around.

Good luck with this one -- if I quilted for others I would have guidelines in place for what I would and would not use.

Thanks Ladies......I knew I could count on you for answers! since I posted this, I tried a couple more times. The quilting looked "ok" from underneath at first, but I was then having skipped stitches (as quoted above). After about a 12 square inch area taking way took long and two repairs, I called her and said it wasn't working; took a photo and sent it to her. She is now looking for a more suitable backing, and I am ripping out stitches. Glad to know that the skipped stitches was NOT just my tension.
