I went to Quilt Canada in Newfoundland in june , three years ago, and fell in love with this quilt. It said it was inspired by a quilt in The Quilter magazine circa 1990!!! I have kept the picture and wonder if anyone knows or can figure out this pattern???
No, but will look through my books when I get home.
Wooo! It sure is nice but I think I see a ton of Y seams!
This could be broken down into squares (large and small), flying geese and hst pretty easily.
i hope someone knows where to get the pattern. that is a great looking quilt
Whatever it is one of the blocks is a snowball block.

Good News: no y seams.
The center star is an on point square. The snowballs are square The joins between are rectangles. Cut the trapezoid (white) add the purple triangles make four: put two pale green triangles on medium green diamond sew two to (opposite sides) trapezoid put brown triangle on the other two diamond block, sew them to the trapeziod. Rectangle. |

The ribbon in the quilt is not put together like this pattern, though. It looks to me like the maker pieced it diaogonally lower left to upper right. The green square is whole, with floral triangles. Then a floral square with white triangles. I would have done it the other direction, with a whole unpieced floral, and a green square with white triangles, then the top of the "ribbon" is whole. I had run across the linked pattern & was mentally planning it so my ribbon was not pieced. I am going to use a stripe for the top of the ribbon, so it will kind of look gross-grained. PS I know that white center in the joining rectangle is not a trapizoid, just dont know what it IS. It's a square with the corners replaced with the purple. |
If the snowballs were 4 patches it would be "Another Nine Patch Star". Check it out:
