My LQS has a really nice quilt out that has the minky fabric on the back. It is so soft and nice. I was at JoAnn's getting some stuff for my daughter's halloween costume and saw they had a similar (it looked exactly the same) fabric in several colors (pink, cream, and one or two more). It is priced at $14.99. I'm not sure what my LQS price is on the same type stuff but that price seems high for JoAnn's so I am wondering if it is the same or similar enough in quality?? I have a number of J coupons so the price would be much lower.

Also, is this fabric difficult to quilt? It seemed so soft and flexible that it may be difficult to work with (I don't think you would starch this type of fabric would you??).

I have used joanns minkey quite a few years ago my daughter loves it and has not said anything to this day is wrong with it. I don't do my own quilting, i think do to the stretch factor with it you want to be careful or who does your quilting hopefully has some experince with it.

i love the softness of the minky, but i'm too scared to use it as a backing. i'm afraid i'll stretch it.

I asked at my LQS the last time I was in if it was difficult to use and they said it is just like regular fabric. Of course, this is from people who have sewn and quilted for decades so their milage may vary from mine as I just started a few months ago and have horror memories from junior high school sewing class.

I have used both, When it first came out I believe you could only get it aLQS. it was $20 a yd. I really didn't notice too much difference in quality . more choices at JoAnn's.

Were you using it with other 100% cotton fabrics?? I don't know how it would "stretch/react" when being sewn with a quilt front using 100% cotton?

There has been a few posts on using minky, minky- like fabric and fleece as backings. Do a search and type in minky and they should come up for you.

I used Joann's version of Minke and love it. Besides using it as a quilt backing, I made an adorable matching gown for a baby. The mommy loved it.

me too, no problems with it at all...i did stabilize the back of it..with the iron on light weight pellon. (it looks like muslin..)

I love using minky and I use it often. But I load it on my long arm. Jo's has cute minky but it can be thinner than the LQS minky. So just feel it first before you buy.
