Our group that makes quilts for charity received a donation of a fairly high pile fleece. I am thinking about using it for a backing if that is feasible. I'm looking for any advice any of you can give me about this.

As an aside we make tied quilts, pillowcase style generally but could construct some differently.

I used it as a backer on flannel quilts. Here's the post. The black fabric was flannel, the red was fleece.

I just finished a tied quilt with a fleece blanket as a back. We washed the blanket first. It is very soft. I will have to see how it holds up. I will watch this thread. Others have used fleece as a back.

fleece makes great backs-
the only thing you need to remember is it is stretchy- it's important to smooth it flat- without stretching it.
other than that- it's great.
quilts nicely- but would be great for pillowcase style- tied....lots less chance of it stretching out of shape that way- since it's usually the quilting process that causes the stretch.

Oh use it for the back, heck even for the front maybe. My guild uses fleece as stripes down the front mixed with cute kid theme fabrics. These are donated to a child's bereavement group through Hospice. The children have lost someone close to them and love having a soft huggy quilt to cuddle with. Good luck and I know you will put that fleece to good use.

Please explain what "pillowcase style" means.

The lady who does my LAQing, makes her kids quilts with fleece backing. And yes, does them on the LAQ.

I used fleece on a t-shirt quilt and it turned out great. Very warm & cozy, too.

I made my son a pile fleece backed quilt when he was young. It came out great!

I used a heavy fleece on the back on my bug jar quilt. Didn't use any batting and it was great.
