Have you used high loft batting with machine quilting?
 

I have not used high loft batting before. I machine quilt on my regular sewing machine and would like to try a loftier batting this time. I do not want to double my low loft. I think it would shift too much. I also spray baste and a double batting would be asking for trouble. Anyway, whats been your experience?

I have used high loft alot, and it seems to sew the same as low loft to me. I would use a design to quilt then heavy stipple and then it made it look like trapunto. personally I like the look and feel of high loft better. Good luck

I've used Dream Puff batting and quilted it about 4" apart on my home machine. I didn't want to quilt too close and ruin the loft. I used it on a queen size quilt and used basting spray. It turned out great, soft and puffy. I also used flannel to back it.

I think it would depend on just high high the loft of the batting you are considering. I did one quilt with REALLY HIGH loft. NEVER , EVER .. EVER again!
If its batting you can buy by the yard , or even get a small crib or craft size. I would buy it and experiment... it would be awful to buy a big batting get it all basted .. start working on it ... and then figure out that a differnent batting would be easier.
Ever machine model performs a bit differently, as does each quilter ...

I agree with Lori S -- buy a piece or a crib size package and try it on whole cloth to see if you like the way it works.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I think I'll experiment a tad on some practice pieces before I make a larger quilt. Your suggestions have been very helpful.
