haven't been feeling like crafting...

It's a weird feeling... maybe I'm doing too many crafts... Lately I haven't been feeling like quilting, knitting or crocheting... I'm forcing myself to do so, but kinda get bored with it... HELP!!!!

You need a break. Try reorganizing your area. Cut out pieces for another quilt. Flip through your patterns and see if something peaks your interest. We all need to step back sometimes and do something else.

Same here think it is the winter blues. If I get through Feb. then I am ok. I should be quilting a quilt now and it is still waiting. We will soon be ready for the new spring start.

I think reorganizing quilt fabric is an EXCELLENT idea. I am doing this right now, huge job, but it will be so fun to select fabrics once it is all done.

I had to find something new to do. Now I have an interest again in machine embroidery so I'll probably get back to it. Knitting scarves in the evening just so my hands are busy and I'm not eating! You'll find something that sparks your interest soon.

I understand! I felt the same way. Did get my tumbler baby quilt done.Check "pictures" to see it and get inspired hopefully. Maybe work on some little projects to get you excited again.

I've been a slump since about Oct. Just can't get motivated to do anything. I've forced myself to start cutting FQ's and strips from my scrap bin, but I don't even last at that too long. Hope I get over this pretty soon.

I try to take a class when I need to get my creativity going again.

Well, what I have noticed from those of you who have commented that you feel in a slump is that you are from states that tend to be dark and dreary in the winter. I used to feel this way when we lived in Oregon. By the middle of Feb I would have to force myself to get out of bed in the morning when all I wanted to do was stay under the covers in the fetal position. That was the extreme. It crept up in little increments. I had 4 small children to take care of and it was a big problem. Then DH got a job transfer to AZ. It never happened again. Sounds like you all would benefit by getting some light on your retinas! Read up on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). There is light therapy that you can do at home that will alleviate the blahs and get those creative juices flowing again. If you find it gets worse as each dark day passes it is a good bet that this could be the issue. With some bright warm light and some exercise it should ease. Best of luck. It took me 20 years before I figured this one out. Ann

I have felt the same way since Christmas. I posted on the forum under"I'm in a funk." I got some good suggestions. I have slowly started to get back in the mood. What people told me is "This is supposed to be a hobby." So stop & smell the flowers. Good luck to all of us. It is nice to know that we're not in this by ourselves.

DebraK 01-24-2012 05:03 PM

I don't understand why anyone forces themselves to do their hobbies. It's supposed to be fun. How and why would you force fun? Take a break. It will call to you again.

Honeynga 01-24-2012 05:18 PM

I have posted similar issues....I think I've gotten myself overwhelmed with wanting to do so much and not accomplishing hardly anything ! I've taken a break from quilting and have been knitting feverishly; am making my "lists" of things to do in the next few days and one is to re organize my stash/cutting room; I've already grouped some fabrics in 2 gal plastic bags and labeled them with what I want to accomplish. I know for certain that I'm affected by the long dark nights.....I'm not one to stay in bed if it is sunlight out; but find myself ready to go to bed before 8 pm and staying there until 7:30.....NOT ASLEEP MIND YOU, just can't get up ! My other issue is that I'm almost 65, have had some health issues, live alone and am maybe more than "mildly" depressed; but I'm working on that ! Today has been an awesome day because I finally made the decision to adopt a cat from the local shelter; has not been a quick decision because I can't make decisions ! Got my little buddy today and he is awesome; he came in, been checking out everything and purring as he goes ! He even laid down by my feet and rolled over so I could scratch his belly ! I chose to adopt not the pretty calico but the little gray and white striped little fella that has a severely deformed ear !

Too,I'm going to a Bible study in the a.m. that is 8 weeks in duration and that will MAKE me attend because I'm not a quitter when I make commitments to others.....now my commitments to my quilting and knitting are other stories !

I really think when "we" are in this funk it is meant to be; stay in bed, don't get dressed, nuture your inner self and then one day you will wake up ready to go ! When I'm in this funk folks can talk to me till they turn blue in the face but until your heart and your soul want to do it you just can't !

Hang in there; don't overwhelm yourself with what you think ought to be done.....just enjoy yourself and if it means spends days repotting your plants, GO for it !

Dolphyngyrl 01-24-2012 05:25 PM

Take a break, thats why its a hobby, you only have to do it when you feel like it

Linnie 01-24-2012 05:37 PM

I agree with the reorg. idea

I know the feeling pretty good. Also have your vitamin D levels checked. I had mine done and I was very low. That also can make a difference for us in the northern states.

I found myself in a post-holiday crash. I ran on adrenaline from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Crashed on New Year's Eve with a miserable cold. That was followed by case of the blahs, hanging on the couch watching TV ( I never watch TV -- except for Project Runway & Greys Anatomy). I'm just getting back on my feet working a UFO I dug up. It feels good. DH says it nice to hear the sewing machine running again :-) Cheers!

emsgranny 01-25-2012 04:45 AM

I have the same problem!!! I have a few quilts cut out and others ready to start but I cant seem to get into it!!! I think I am just overwhelmed with life in general and have been dealing with relapse of my MS - there has been soo many beautiful quilts for inspiration here but I just cant get it done. Mine could also be that my daughter moved back in with her two little ones and I am now sharing my sewing space with their tv ... dont get me wrong I love my daughter and my grandkids but I just dont have the room to leave my stuff out etc I am just going to have to change my attitude lol

When I am in a funk, I'll do some winter/spring cleaning. Getting ahead.

Lori S 01-25-2012 07:39 AM

It is not unusual for me to have serious slump after the holidays. Typically I have been in overdrive from September till December. After such a frenzy I need to just stop for awhile. It use to disturb me when this slump would happen , now I just ride the wave. I do try to do some of the "stuff" like re-organizing so when I do get back in the mood my space is welcoming me back.

Earleen 01-26-2012 06:30 PM

I have a light for sunshine and take Vit. D. per Dr. I went to guild meeting last night and we have 4 projects to get done for next month's meeting. Guess that will get me going again. They sound like fun projects. So here goes.
