Having Issues With Sashing and Cornerstones

For the first time I'm making a quilt with sashing and cornerstones. Attaching the sashing to thesides of the blocks has been fine. However once I get the cornerstones attached to the sashing and try to match across the top of the blockers it's way off. Talk about wasted days and wasted nights! I've spent the past two hours sewing and ripping! Any suggestions?

go back and check your cutting and seam allowances. Make sure they are correct including the block they surround.
Something will be "off" somewhere.

Have you squared off your blocks and cut the sashing to the same size? Starching the fabric would help. Pinning helps a lot too. Ease in if you need to so that they match.

Have you measured the width of your finished blocks and sashings? You need to be sure that your bottom sashing is exactly the same as the width of the finished blocks, and that the cornerstones are exactly the width of the finished sashings. Then pin it carefully.

I see we all answered at the same time, and for once we have the same answer. :)

This visual might help you get a better picture in your mind of how to figure the cornerstone squares.

I am going to be sewing sashing and cornerstones this week so I really appreciated the information,

Something has to be off somewhere, if all your measurements are spot on, your sahing and cornerstones should go together perfectly. Know how frustrsting it can be, been there myself!

One thing I figured out was to do each strip, plus the cornerstone individually. Originally I just did the whole strip with the cornerstones. I've measured each block to make sure they are all 5 1/2" so I don't know where it went wrong. I cut all the strips to 6" to allow for the 1/4" seams, but it must have been off on the strips for the sashes.

What Jan said, lol.

The first time I did sashing and cornerstones, I made them in a long row and then tried to match the row down the blocks. Unbelievable how off I was. It was humiliating. Now I attach by the block and have no problems!
