I'm fairly new to quilting...kinda trying to teach myself..I just bought a used Esante1 Baby lock machine. I signed up for classes but there not for 3 more weeks, in the meen time I got rid of my old machine, and now im stuck having no idea how to work this properly. I bought it mostly for quilting...and it seems to want to do everything but quilt. what I really would like to know at this moment in time is how to set it to do stippling? In all of the stitch options not a single one is compatible with the quilting foot..which Im assuming is the same as a free style foot. So i can find stitches that would work on the machine, but none of them will accept the free motion foot or quilting foot that comes with the machine..it doesn't give me the option to use it...Please can someone who has this machine, or had it give me some help.

I don't have your same machine, however typically when you quilt and want to do stippling....you drop the feed dogs...use the "darning/quilting" foot and set your machine on a regular straight stitch. You move the fabric yourself. Because the feed dogs are not up...you can move the fabric freely under the foot. Think of it like drawing on fabric only you move the paper...not the pencil, as the pencil would be your needle.

Well, I tried all of that...however when I put it on any stitch but an embrodery it doesn't give me an option to use the quilting foot..and I've already broken 4 needles trying to use it with the stitch..I was told it has an option avaliable on it to do it, but i just can't seem to be able to.

The usual sequence is:

darning foot (hopping foot- the round bottom plastic one)
straight stotch
feed dogs down or covered

Read your manual - it is sure to be in there someplace. By telling it to embroider, you are also telling it you want wide stitches, not plain straight. That's why you are breaking needles.

I went back to the quilting shop I bought it at, and asked a bunch of questions..and now I guess it is all a matter of time of just getting use to it..and learning everything...I figured once I have my classes on the machine, I would want to take some in just plain quilting since i've pretty much taught myself, and I would like to learn some actual techniques.

I have the Esante. Do you have the embroidery unit hooked up to your machine? If that is the case that is why it won't let you do what you want to. Remove the embroidery unit, choose the sewing icon and you should be ok.

I checked out the Esante, it's similar to my Espire, which is for quilting. The Babylock Website indicated the Esante is for embroidery. I

They look similar and probably operate the same, I love my Espire, it almost sews all by itself.

What exactly are you having problems with?
