Heat n bond question

Most appliques require to be sewn down in swaps. I have the Heat n Bond Ultrahold iron-on adhesive but says no sew. It specifically say DO NOT SEW. Can i sew it anyways? I really don't need to buy anything and want to use what I have . I didn't realize this was a no sew. But I need to sew the raw edges.

Years ago when I first starting appliqueing, I used the Heat N Bond Ultrahold and it gummed up the needles. If it is Ultrahold, there is more bonding agent added, which is thicker and harder for needles to manipulate through. The best is the Heat n Bond Lite. You can iron the fabric piece, and lift it back up to maneuver it around. Easily hand sew through it.

Regular Hear and Bond is very difficult to sew as it gums up the needle.

I found that heat and bond makes the applique pieces much stiffer than some of the other iron-on interfaces.

Thank you all for the advice.

The no- sew heat & bond is not a good choice for swap blocks. It will be very difficult to stitch, gums up needles, is not made for that and does not soften up. The blocks will be stuff/hard as a board. It is OK to use for a wallhanging that will not be laundered, does not need stitching, will not be used as a quilt.

Thanks I have always wondered why it says, no sew. I have used it but it does leave little gum balls on the needle. I make a point of using what I have, so I would use it on a wall hanging where softness isn't important.

Heat & bond ultra is for craft & home dec. After fusing it will be like cardboard. As mentioned, only appropriate for a wall hanging and even then the applique will be so rigid it may distort the rest of the hanging.

You don't want to use THAT for your applique, the Lite H&B is what is made especially for sewing on your machine:

I've used wonder under with success, but haven't tried the heat n bond, probably not a good idea if it says no sew. Good Luck.

HELP!!!

OK so now I screwed up and used Heat and Bond ultra for appliqué on my quilt and have a stitched around the appliqué, gummy needles and all. This is a large bed sized quilt for use by my niece. I'm actually doing the exact same quilt for my other niece but I haven't bonded the flowers to the quilt yet. I can re-cut the flowers using the H&B LITE. What should I do with the first quilt though?? I would imagine that at the very least I will have to have the long armer ignore those areas of the quilt.

I'm attaching a photo... All the flowers are appliquéd using the H&B ultra and have been zig zag stitched. They are very stiff bit I assumed they would relax after washing!

I'm NOT very happy with the lady at the quilt store who recommended it to me!!! I told her exactly what I was doing :(
