Have never used for this, but do spot on stitch witch, or iron on hemming tape, with applique to keep it in place. Would sew down the hem, I'd fear coming undone if any heat were to unstick it. Good Luck :)

There are two kinds of Heat and Bond. One is specifically sewable and the other isn't. I've used both. The one that is non-sewable, I would hesitate to use on a quilt as if you changed your mind and decided to sew it on after using it, it gums up your sewing machine needle. You constantly have to clean your needle. Any guess who's made that mistake??!!! The sewable type, I've just recently used it and seems to work wonderfully when I'm doing applique work using my sewing machine. Doesn't gum up the needle. I haven't tried washing the Heat and Bond piece after sewing it or iron-on only type, so I don't know how it takes to washing.

A newbie here chimming in on a subject I know a little about. I love Heat n Bond and buy it by the bolt. It comes in a couple of "strenghts" like LITE and HEAVY. The light stuff is great and it is best to stitch it down by machine or hand. But the heavy is something else again. It will gum up the machine needle and it is too hard to stitch through by hand. Quess how I know!

The brand name is api's Crafters Pick. Washable, permanent bond. Flexible and dries clear.
You have to prewash the fabric to get rid of the sizing, you have to let it cure for 7 days before washing/drying.

Mentioned this is another thread, but if you iron the binding down on the backside, it's much easier to manage when attaching to the back. :) I do mine one side at a time, but you could do it all at once too.

I attached my quilt hanging sleeve with Heat N Bond; didn't hold very well. I love the stuff, but wouldn't use it again to hold up a wall hanging.
