I tell them I don't care how they use the quilt, on a bed, on a couch, on the wall, etc; JUST USE IT!

This is my take on the 'heirloom' sentiment as well. If it lasts long enough to be passed on as well as being used/loved by the original recipient, so much the better.

An heirloom is a quilt that I decide calls for custom LAQ'ing. The time, expense and outcome are worthy of special care (i.e.: none or very minimal use or display) and for gifting or passing on to younger family members.

I think someone making "heirloom quilts" is fruitless. If a quilt is put away to keep safe, it isn't loved. Too many quilters, gently fold quilts and put them away. I hope all my quilts are used and loved.

I agree.I make lots of quilts and want them to be used and loved.I make many for the grands and they rotate their stock and love them all.I am happy to see them being used.
