Hello from Florida - clam shell quilt
 

Hello to all from Florida. I was led to this site while searching for a quilt pattern . One of the people on here said they had the pattern but couldn't figure out how to use it.( I think that post was from2010.) It is called a Log Cabin Clam Shell . Usually I can just look at a sewn block and figure out how it was done but this one has me stumped . Log cabin blocks have always been a favorite and Ive made many .Also , Ive made the Clam Shell pattern but Ive never seen the Log Cabin Clam Shell . The pattern does look a little complicated but I feel that I could figure it out if I had a drawing of the design. Any help would be
appreciated. Im looking forward to making new friends and of course,Ill be happy to help any way I can.

Welcome to the QB. The log cabin clam shell is made with curved log cabin blocks. Here are layouts I made using my EQ5. One is made with one strip's finished size double the width of the other and the second one is made with one strip triple the size of the other. Hope this is helpful.

WOW, with the right fabrics, that should make a stunning quilt.

I just finished a wall hanging using this technique. It is pieced like a traditional log cabin except that you use two size width strips which creates the curve affect. I used 1" and 3/4" (raw size) and made sea horses out of the blocks by turning the blocks around to accent the curve. The side with the wider strips creates the curve. I didn't have a pattern and the challenge is to get the two width strips the right size so that you end up with a square when you're finished. Overall the pattern looks more difficult than it is. I have seen it referred to as a curved log cabin and if you google that there is quite a bit out there on it.

Yes, this is a simple curved log cabin block.
The larger the difference between the narrow side of the block's strips and the wider side of the block's strips, the more pronounced the curve will be.
I recently did one the created an almost perfect circle when the curves were placed together. I cut my strips at 1 & 5/8 for the wider side, and 1 & 1/4 for the narrow side. Here is the graph for the blocks.
