Does anyone have this machine and would you recommend it for a beginner or a young girl wanting to start out sewing?

I'd like to know too, bc I am very serious about getting one for my grandbaby, but she likes pink.
I really want a pink one, but I love Janome. She has seen this and I told her we could put some pink heart stickers on it.
She is ok with that, but thought I would ask anyway.
I'd like to surprise her with a pink one :thumbup:
QuaintQuilter, I can't say how good this machine is, but somebody did post about one last year. I am on DD's computer and don't have time to go look for that thread.
I have two adult Janomes and love them, if that helps. Hope you find what your looking for and are very happy. Me too :XD:

I bought my Granddaughter a Hello Kitty last summer and she loves it. She is only 7, so I still have to help with threading the machine, but she can sew on it with no problem. I would definitely recommend it.

Hi, I have to give you my opinion on this. If your grandchild is really interested in sewing and admires your machines please keep this in mind when buying her one. Do not make the mistake by getting her a toy machine. She will tire of it as it is a toy. Get her a machine that has more than a few stitches. How will she grow as a sewer if she is limited by the features a machine doesn't have? I'm not saying get her an expensive machine just one that she will be able to grow with and one that has a nice variety of basic and decorative stitches, a one step buttonhole, needle threader , drop in bobbin and one she won't have to lube. I got my granddaughter a Janome Gem but wish I had gone with an inexpensive Brother from Walmart. She sews better on the full size machine. Her Janome is a nice machine but I think going full size would have been better. My Granddaughter just turned 8.

The Hello Kitty machine is a Janome Gem just with a different case. I've sewn on it for a while just to make sure it worked fine and have had no problems. I have a Gem myself and they are identical. I am giving the Hello Kitty to my Grandaughter who is 6-1/2. When she gets old if still interested she can pass this one on to her little sister and she can take over her Dad's Janome MC4000. The only features I prefer for her from the bigger machine is the drop in bobbin and needle up/down button. That would make her sewing easier, but for now she can learn on the kitty.

A toy machine is just a toy. If she is going to learn to sew get a full size machine.

Janome makes two versions of the Hello Kitty machine. One is a 3/4 size that is not a toy and the other is 1/2 size which is a toy. I bought my granddaughter the 3/4 size. It sews the same as my Janome Gem Gold. I go to a lot of quilt workshops and I see a lot of the 3/4 Hello Kitty machine. Many quilters love to sew on them. The 3/4 Hello Kitty machine is about $140, some places less.

I agree, you can get a full size for less money at walmart.

I bought 2 Janome sew mini machines for my grandaughters. I wish I would have bought one better machine for them to share. I was always having to fix the bobbin area, as the thread would hang up inside.Not sure about Hello Kitty or the Gem.

The Janome Gem Gold line is not inexpensive unless you can find a good buy on Ebay. I think sewing machine companies make a big mistake making low quality sewing machines along with their high quality machines.

There were four reviews on the website for this machine. Two of them gave it five stars (the highest rating) and two gave it four stars. One of the four star ratings stated that the bobbin tension was off and had to be adjusted; the second person didn't comment at all.

That said, if I were looking for a machine for an older child, perhaps pre-teen, I'd look for a good used full-sized machine. For a younger child, I think this one would be great. Janome makes good sewing machines. With the 3/4 size, it would be easier for a younger child to move about without all of the weight of a larger machine. JMHO. :wink:

how does the Janome sewist series work? I am looking at getting one and have the opertunity to maybe get a floor model from a sewing machine shop. It is the 521 model. My DH said that I can save for my Birthday for one. August is not going to come fast enough. But that is only if my singer from walmart can't be fixed.
I have seen the hello kitty ones and even thought about doing one of those for my daughter. She loves to try and sew but she is only 2 years old. It wouldn't be for a few more years. Seeing how she is so young.
