HELP~~~~I need more advice
 
I am planning on making a Jenny Beyer--Day & Night quilt. The pattern makes 2~~56 inch square quilts. I would like to make them king size, 108 square. Am I safe to multiply the yardage requirements x 4, and know that I will have enough fabric. That sounds logical to me, but need to pass it by all the wonderful people on this board, who will know the right answer. Thanks to all who help me with this challenge.

As logical as it sounds, I would have to say no, you need to do some more figuring. The Day and Night quilt by Jinny Beyer is actually 53" square, and has a wide border. If you intend to just sew 4 bordered quilt tops together, you would indeed multiple the yardage by 4 and you would have a quilt that is 106" square, but if you intend to sew 4 of the middle sections (sans borders) together and then put on a border your yardage requirements and final size will change.

Multiply the yardages by 4 and have some extra for the border fabric, or plan a second inner or outer border.

Yes, I will be making 2 queen/king size tops. They are for my daughter's lake home, in the bedroom that has 2 queen beds. She wants them to blend, but not match, and when I ran across this pattern, I think that this will work. I am assuming that the yardage required makes both of the 53 square tops, and I multiplied that times 4 to come up with my yardage. I know that the fabric for the borders will change, because I willl plan on just putting all the blocks together and then do the borders.

have you visited Jenny's website? often there are charts for making different sizes for her quilts- and if you email her she will help you figure out how to make the quilts the size you want.

If you are the sort of person that is more comfortable having 'too much' - and money is not a major factor - multiply by five - you would probably have some leftovers, but that would give you some wiggle room for design adaptations/changes.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. What I ended up doing, was to make some copies of the finished quilt on the pattern, and then PHYSICALLY cut and paste them to make the size of quilt I wanted, which ended up being 5 quilt units. So, as bearisgray said, if I am comfortable with that little extra and can afford it, I do plan on purchasing 6 times the recommended amount. I am also going to email Jinny Beyer, and see what her recommendations would be. Thanks to all for the help. I can always rely on the great people here for great answers.

You could use the leftovers - if any - to make pillow shams or pillow cases.
Or you might buy enough for matching pillow coverings when you buy the fabrics.
