I would like to make my soon-to-be 2 yr old daughter an "I Spy" quilt. She loves looking at books and pictures and I thouhgt this would be a perfect b-day present for her.
I was wondering if any of you fantastic, super, loving (enough buttering up? ) ladies have any spare blocks of appropriate fabrics for this project. I have only about 2 different prints (a Pooh and a cow print) so I have a long way to go for this. Please let me know if you would be willing to help me out. I really, really, appreciate it. It would save me from having to buy a bunch of different fabrics just to get a small square from it. Thanks in advance! You're all great! |
I might have some. What size of square are you needing?
|
Around 6 inches. Thanks so much. I'll PM you my addy incase you find some.
Thanks! |
With out looking I know I have monkeys and cats.
|
Cool!
|
Cotton or flannel or can you use both?
|
Colletta-I KNOW I have a bunch I can share with you. I have been collecting for quite a while and most are fat quarters, so I can easily cut you a 6" square and still have plenty for me. Lots of mine are girly too because I have 4 granddaughters. PM me your address and I will mail them to you this week.

Cute idea. Wish I knew about "I spy" quilts when my kids were smaller.
I know I don't have anything, but if you put pairs or multiples of objects in your quilt it could become a matching game for her. "Can you find another ____?" "How many _____ can you find?" |
me, too
WHAT SIZE DO YOU WANT THEM CUT? Although if you are working with a 12 inch size finished block, you can use 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 6.5 inch squares very easily How do you feel about cats? And please don't say "It doesn't matter" - I need way more quidelines than that. I've found that some fabrics cut up better in different size squares than others. You'd think a scatter print would work well no matter what. Not in my opinion, anyway. Sharon |
Ami Simms has a cute book out called "Picture Play"
Her web site also has quite a few pictures of finished quilts with an I Spy theme. |

I will have to look, but I think I may have an Elmo print left. Do you have any elmos?
|
I have a neighbor who operates and online fabric store (www.noveltyquiltfabrics.com) from her home. She sells I-Spy kits with up to 72 6" or 8" blocks already pre-cut. I am not sure she has them actually on her website, but you could send a message to inquire.
I have also used Ami Simms' "Picture Play" book which includes a page of several games you can play with your I-Spy quilt. I made a label by ironing a piece of muslin to the waxy side of freezer paper, then cutting it down to 8-1/2" x 11" and feeding it through the printer. Worked like a charm. Have fun! |

Sounds like you'll have plenty now, but if you need more I bought a bunch off of ebay a long time ago for one I am working on. So you could check there if you need any extras! The ones I got are only 4", otherwise I'd offer to send the ones I won't use...
