Help ! 2 requests "Can you put a silky edge on the quilt?"
How do I put a blanket silky edging on a quilt top? No clue.. zero clue..
Help please ! 30 year quilter.. make my own binding.. this is a new one for me and twice asked for by differant people ! Thanks, Ell |
I think they're referring to the satin edge often put on baby blankets? It's basically a very wide binding, I think.

I used to see it in the fabric stores...I think near the bias tape...I don't know that I have seen any for years...but then I haven't intentionally looked.

Baby blanket binding is easy to use, but expensive. 50% off coupons help.

You can still buy the satin blanket binding, in the same display with the bias tape, etc., even at WalMart.
|
Silky binding is easy enough to purchase....haven't used it yet myself. The only difficulty I could envisage would be it's slippery nature. I would be inclined to "pin it to death" and you should be fine.

Use school glue to hold it in place, and you should have no problem.

I have also used white satin fabric and cut the normal 2-1/2" strips for binding....it was very ravelly so I pinked the edges....and very slippery so after sewing down the first time, I used glue to hold it in place for the second stitching.....it came out very nice and my dd, who is a blanket "stroker" to this day, loves it!....she feels the silky edge while new granddaughter gets the rest of the quilt.....gotta love her, she is so much fun to take to the fabric store....she never gets away from the satins and silks....LOL

I just made a quilt for my mom and used the satin baby blanket binding for it. I found it in the same area for bias tape. :)
