Dark greens good lol...And Eagars right..It's ultimately up to what moves YOU...I wish you the very best of luck..And Please post a pic when you're done!

( I sent you a PM apologizing for all of my rambling lmao)...Have a good one

Jamiestitcher62 01-20-2011 09:10 AM

Your stash looks like mine. All country colors. I love my hunter greens, burgundy, navy blue and creams.

OK, here's yet ANOTHER maroon. I do have a 'dusty rose' in my stash that was given to me, but I'm SO not a pink gal and couldn't bring myself to take a picture of it.

I think everything I own (pretty much) is country. It's like my whole stash matches. lol This is why I think I've got a pathetic stash, and have been TRYING to broaden my horizons of my colors.

Figured I'd post quick so both pics are right next to one another. The green in the middle just wasn't sitting right with me, so I moved the same fabrics around. I think it really improves the flow. I also added a light border fabric.

So am I nuts or what? Could be worse. I could be BUYING fabric and doing this. ha ha

I need to just let it lay now for a day and see how it sits with me.

DogHouseMom 01-20-2011 01:37 PM

disregard. I had commented about a previous picture, posted a reply, then saw new pictures.

DogHouseMom 01-20-2011 01:47 PM

Ok ... new pic to work with :)

Can we see a larger image of the fabric in 3rd from left? My concern is that it seems to be too large of a print with too much difference between value within the fabric. The result will be one 1" square will be dark and another will be light - but in the same "position" in the bargello.

barnbum 01-20-2011 02:11 PM

Ooo--I haven't been keeping up...This darn job keeps getting in my way! I'll come back and read through all I've missed as soon as I get chores done!! Be back soon....

Here's a bit better of a picture of color #3 for your viewing pleasure...

yeah, I didn't walk away. Different fabric, smaller print.

barnbum 01-20-2011 02:50 PM

Ooo--it's getting better and better! You only need 7 fabrics?

Yep. I'm taking baby steps with the bargello, and the 7 color choices are giving me fits!! lol

7 colors for the main part, two different for borders. I'm actually thinking about using black as one border.

barnbum 01-20-2011 03:00 PM

Well--the last one posted looks pretty nice! :-D

barnbum 01-20-2011 05:46 PM

After looking at your first pick again--I really like them. Yes, they all blend in together, but I think with only seven fabrics that may be a good thing?

How are you doing in coming to a final decision, Happy Treadler?

I just picked out 20 florals for a Surf Song, aka Wildflower Meadow. ;) I'd love an opinion...but I'll start my only post.

I see you changed your fabric choices. The first ones were all the same values.

I worked with your fabrics a bit, does this make sense to you? You'll have to click on the "Download button"

It's huge - look at it at 75% to see what I mean.

tjradj 01-20-2011 08:07 PM

What does it look like if you switch the white floral (third from right) with the beige (first on right).
It's just that the white floral (IMHO) is too bright for the middle of your set.

Wow. M.I. just how much TIME did you take doing this for me?? Now you'll have me carrying my laptop around since my color printer is out of ink. Could you possibly do this for a living? That is, help color-disabled people match fabric?? ha ha

Well, kids have another 2-hour snow delay here. I think they're getting used to me running up & down the stairs with my camera taking pictures. You should see my sewing room with all the fabric thrown all over the place.

So do you think I should not try to blend from one color to the next and just keep all the same color in my dark to light? I just cannot believe how much there is to learn about fabric, and I feel like I'm in 'quilting university'. Because I don't know anyone else who quilts, it's SO very nice to be able to come here and learn so much.

Thank you thank you thank you all for not giving me up me, even though I'm feeling like giving up on myself and not bugging you all. Hopefully there's at least another fabric dummie out there somewhere who is learning along with me.

Geez, and you all may have thought I gave up. Well, I'm still going crazy on my end. I have decided, however, to get other quilting accomplished as I continue to freak out about this next project.

I chose to pick the green colors because I have so many of them in my stash, and now with all my 'color knowledge', I sensed a tealish-ish/cooler undertone and tried to stick with that. I'd love to get away from hunter greens because it seems like that and maroon are my 'safe colors'.

Here are the two attempts. I apologize in advance for my sorry attempt at choosing colors (again).

I like the top photo - so soft!

ArtisticDesign 01-21-2011 12:18 PM

Now If I could just do what M.I.Late did with that download lol...Pretty cool

Now you're getting there!! I like the top one best but I'd switch the two middle greens. It would be the 5th and 6th from the left if you count from the black. The black will really make this pop!

For those poor souls who are still following my pathetic thread.

One last green option (added a fabric I used before).

Geez, this sure is one way to organize your stash!!

barnbum 01-21-2011 02:30 PM

It looks great!! The only change (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO) I would quietly and softly and gently suggest is changing the last one to a light tan shade rather than whiteish....

In our corporate effort, I think we've got it!! At least I feel good about it.

Can't express how much I've learned, and how much I've appreciated all the help. I even picked out a spot on the wall in the hall at the entrance of our home.

Now to actually see if I can SEW a bargello. Hoping to take my 40th birthday on Wednesday and give it a shot.

Thanks again, everybody, for tolerating my ignorance.

Trina

PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D :-D :-D

There you go! Now get busy cutting and sewing. We're waiting to see that finished top. : ) Good job!

To all of my little bargello helpers out there who are intersted in my progress... Tonight I actually cut out my strips out of the initial piecing of the colors together and am ready to start piecing my top together! I just love the look of the flow of colors, and was so excited when I got to strip piece them together. They have a very warm and serene feeling. To be honest, I'm kinda now a bit intimidated to start actually putting all the different size strips together, but I'm sure it will be fine. Just gotta take that first LEAP of faith!

I'll keep ya all posted when I get the top done, which probably won't be for a bit of a while yet. BUT, at least all the time you devoted to helping me was not wasted time and I really wanted to let you know that I appreciated all the help and am using the knowledge to actually MAKE the project.

Have a great Friday everybody!

It definitely forces you to be organized!! AND, since I'm re-organizing hubby's business into Quickbooks and just worked on re-organizing the sewing room (which is a work in progress) at the same time as my first bargello, I'm turning into an organizing manic. SEW unlike me.

ArtisticDesign 02-19-2011 08:38 PM

ok, all those pieces make me dizzy lol..But, I agree, what a tranquil-soothing yet intricate quil this will be..Great job

OK, now I'm really getting dizzy! ha ha I could not imagine trying to stay organized for a full size quilt. Being organized is certainly no first nature to me! I think I'll be doing this wallhanging while taking baby steps. Sure is teaching me patience. ;) I just need to do this layout like 4 more times... and even the thought of sewing them all together is a bit terrifying for me. It is pretty cool to start actually seeing what the flow will feel like.

I'll keep ya posted...

Just wanted to 'report in' tonight. I finally got up my nerve and started piecing the strips together tonight. LOTS of pins!! Am I overly-freaking out by pinning between each color?? So far everything seems to be lining up. Somehow I'm feeling like I'm going through quilting bootcamp. I've never done a pattern that I need to really think about making sure everything is matching up. I've got about 5 strips pieced and pressed so far, and I'm starting to see the 'wave'. How exciting!! How in the world do people make HUGE quilts like this?

Anyway, I'm excited and just wanted to share. I'll definitely need to take a break and do some scrappy crumb quilting during this project where I can cut free and just 'wing it'.
