Help with Bargello Island Sunset Twist & Turn
I would love to make a queen size in this pattern can anyone figure it for me? in the book it makes a 40 1/4 X 56 1/2 & I am not good at redoing the math. The quilt is Island Sunset in the book twist & turn bargello quilts. Thanks for your help.

Double the bargello then adjust the boarders to the size you want would be my suggestion... just remember when you double it you need 4x the fabric :)
|
I just looked up the pattern (I have to book too!) and saw that without adjusting the block sizes, the only way to increase would be to add more borders and I am afraid that that won't look right. I don't think you want to mess with the pattern of the bargello either. I would double the size of each block. It will keep the integrity of the pattern intact. That means that where the initial strips to be cut are 1-1/2", cut them 3". And on the strips for the pattern, double that as well....so where strip numbered 1 is 3/4", cut it 1-1/2". If I am wrong, please somebody jump in and correct me.

Please don't rely on my suggestions only....keep posting as I may be all wrong

is this the one with only one block design and you just lay them out differently to "twist" your designs? If so, you could simply enlarge the block. if necessary you could draw it out on paper or take to a copy shop.

I can't help with the math, but, I am currently trying to do the same thing with the Nebula in that book. I thought of increasing the block size, but I think you would loose the integrity of the quilt. So far, I have 30 fabrics instead of 20 and I am hoping this will make it large enough to add borders without it looking funny. I plan on watching this thread for other answers.

Thank you ladies for your help & I will keep watching to see if anyone else has some ideas. I will try emailing the lady on the board since it is her book and if she tells me the way to do it I will share that with the board. You ladies are so helpful I just love the board.

i would also invite her to the thread (just copy the thread link in your pm) in case anyone else has questions for her.

This is exactly what I was thinking - and what I had intended to do with the aurora borealis bargello I made, but when I bought the fabric I bought twice the fabric to make it twice as big... oops - forgot it's bigger 2 directions

Hi Ladies! It has been awhile and that is because I have been busy working on a followup book called More Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts - ---- By Request! The most frequently requested quilt was Island Sunset in Queen Size and I have done it. I tried quite a few ways of enlarging it - most of which have been suggested here by others. None of them pleased me too well. So I did a total redesign using strips cut at 2 1/2". I believe most of my designs are more effective in the size they were created - mostly smaller. Except for the ones I designed to be large. My quilting buds all tell me that they like my large Sunset and I did my best to make it great. I actually did it in a colourwash of fabrics just to add to the charm of it. That was the good news. The bad news is that this second book is not due to be released until July 2013. I truly hope you will wait for it.

I read it and went and packed up the bargello strips and book...I will wait until the new book comes out. Hopefully, I will be able to selvage what I started, but, if not, then I'll find a different project for the few strips I had already cut. Waiting in anticipation for your new book. |
Thank you so very much for the reply Eileen. I will find something else to do and wait until your book comes out with the queen size in it. I just love this board, we sure get answers to our questions what a great bunch of helpful quilters.
Thanks to all that help me with this. CathieB |
I will be anxiously waiting for the release of the new book as well!

Just want to thank you again Eileen you have been such a big help. I will pick up my fabric and wait till your book comes out for the queen size. I will do one just now out of the Twist & Turn book that I have so I can practice before doing the queen.
Want everyone to know that this board is just great and imagine you even get to talk to the author of the book I would never have imagined that would happen. All you ladies are so helpful & I am always learning things from you so thanks to all of you also. Cathie |

Can't wait until the new book is released.

The book has been released in 2013. Here is it.

What size are the quilts made from the first book? I was looking on Amazon for books and I am looking to make a quilt for Full--double size bed. I don't want to get a book that has small patterns. Which book would you suggest for a beginner of Bargellos? I have wanted to make them , but I think the color choices are what scares me.
