Help! Bernina 880 zig zag problems/troubleshooting

Hi! I have a Bernina 880, but I haven't used her much, so I am learning. I just had her serviced, and have been sewing placemats similar to the jelly roll rug with the Bosal Khatadin batting. All has gone well until I started trying to zig zag the strips together, now stitches are jumping all over the place. Has anyone had this problem? I feel like there should be no problems, especially since she was just serviced.

Thoughts?
Thanks!
Michele

Do you have the presser foot down?

Presser foot? Yes.

My friend and I was trying to add some applique to a project one time and the zig zag stitch would not work. It skipped stitches all the time and was horrible. We were still using our regular piecing needles. We didn't have that much fabric, but it was tightly woven batik of about 4 to 8 layers according to where we where in the block. Others suggested going to a larger size sharp needle. We ended up having to use a Jeans needle. That solved our problem.

Does the same issue happen using two plain fabrics?

Does the issue happen with a sample size quilt sandwich? (Two layers of fabric with batting)

Try to lengthen and/or widen the zig zag setting. Sometimes the setting is too close together and adding extra thickness just won't work.

As mentioned above, investigate the correct needle/type for the project.

Last tip: Re-thread the machine to make sure the thread is caught in all the tension places correctly.
